Martin Campbell Talks Green Lantern (Again). This time: The Central Power Battery and the possiblity of 3D

No better way to close out the day than with yet another couple of quotes from Green Lantern director Martin Campbell.

I hope you are not getting tired of all the interviews Martin has appeared in discussing Green Lantern because they keep on coming:

We know that Martin has the will power to make Green Lantern a successful franchise despite the pressure of the competitive superhero market in movies and that he understands the story:

CAMPBELL: "I think so. You learn by degrees. You know, when I first took on the job, I did it because I’d never done a superhero movie before and secondly he’s just…he’s a psychological character. His powers are psychological. They’re to do with will and the enemy is fear and so on and so forth, as opposed to Superman who sort of runs into a phone box, gets the old spandex on and off he goes. So he’s a much more complex character and also again, it’s the origin story, which again is the Carol Ferris character, Carl Ferris. There’s Sinestro, Kilowog, Tomar-Re. All these characters and all who appear in the movie. So it’s such a kind of eclectic range of characters and also it’s the only superhero to go to another planet, so you’re creating at least another world that…and none of them do."

However, do we know if the central battery of Oa will appear in the film or the so called green "lamps"?

CAMPBELL: "How do you create the lamp? What’s the origin of the lamp? You’ve got the guardians. You’ve got the central battery. You’ve got all this stuff that you’ve got to deal with, you know? And we fortunately have a terrific production designer in Grant Major who did Lord of the Rings, so it’s a good….you know."

Might there be a possibility for 3D like AVATAR?

Campbell: "Maybe. I mean Cameron’s raised the bar on all that, so I think what he’s done with Avatar will make every studio now sit up and look at the box office from 3D and the fact that audiences loved it and it’s such a hit. I think he will…and of course they can do it in post now, you know 3D is so…even though we haven’t really talked about it, I’m sure it’ll come up."

Lord of the Rings pretty much summarizes the story of the Green Lantern as the war of lights will unfold and rainbow colored rings fly across the universe waiting to be retrieved by the worthy colored lantern corps.
As for 3D I don't know, what do you think?

Ah, there you are Poni. I thought I saw your editorial touch! Why don't you start using some of those contacts you're building up to get an interview with this guy.

3D would work well on this movie.

Did anyone see Esquire magazine? Blake Lively had what appeared to be brown hair in it. He's really taking this seriously. I've like everything I've heard thus far. I'd love to see a sequel (not the next one) with Parallax. They screwed up on the Phoenix Saga, so I'd like to see a decent hero turned villain story.

Has there been any information as to when production begins? Some one told me they were shooting some of it in New Orleans, although I've also heard Australia.

3D does nothing for me. If anything, the effects look more realistic only because the actors look less so. Just give me the movie. (GL is a personal fav)

I'm so tired of hearing about 3D every day now. It's gotten ridiculous the amount of articles titled "'Insert Movie Here' May Be In 3D!" that appear everywhere.

Moving on, this movie's going to be the tits :)

@ Multi

I got a friend who did some CGI suit work for Battle for Los Angeles which was shot in Shreveport. Said now that he had CGI experience he was hoping he could get on with GL seeing as how they'll prob have a bunch. I'll have to get him to keep me updated

Multi: Yep, just like how every studio thinks every CBM needs to be dark and gritty after TDK.

I mean, there was a story about James Bond being in 3D. James Bond. That kind of sealed the deal in my opposition against 3D.

MULTI @ Why is that, with your interviews??? Coz your a Police guy/Copper lol???

; D

You do have a point though, if any superhero movie gonna work in 3D its this one, and we';; have the choice of 3D or not just like AVATAR!!!

Just hope if they do, and it works, 3D don't go to all the other comic book movies though!

If it comes out in 3D then I'll probably not see it in that format. The idea of the constructs coming at you seems a bit too gimmicky for me. It worked in Avatar for me because it didn't try to use it as that type of gimmick. It was used to make you feel like you were in the environment, not to use it in such a way that it makes one of the guns on that mech push out in front of your eyes, which is what I mean as "gimmicky 3D"

But there's no way I'm skipping out on Green Lantern in IMAX. The mere thought of that makes me antsy in the pants :)

gtrman- I TOTALLY AGREE!!!

Tyler- I personally won't be seeing this in 3D because 3D sucks for motion pictures. It should stick to fully animated features.

Multi- Blake is FUGLY!!!

the british accent brings sort of a Alec Guinnessy class to the project - it may be biased but it adds to my faith

I am really starting to get excited about this movie it is going to be kick ass I honestly believe Ryan can handle this role (Note:I might be biased as he is playing my favourite character Deadpool) but he can pull off serious characters and since when was Hal ever completly serious I mean i bet he's been funny before.
