Ryan Reynolds Caught Mistake in Green Lantern Oath Before Filming

The actor playing the intergalactic superhero has saved the screenwriters from being "murdered" by fans for transcribing the iconic Oath wrong.

The Comic Con coverage of Warner Bros next tentpole franchise has been plentiful; including revelations of new Lantern Corps members appearing in the film, Mark Strong's dedication to his character and we've even heard Ryan Reynolds recite the iconic Green Lantern Corps Oath. During an interview with Fandango, Reynolds acknowledges how important the Oath is to fans; and remembers a fateful day he had to say it in front of the cameras:

"It was nerve wracking [the first time]. I remember when I read..and there's been rewrites and redrafts and sometimes different dialogue is transcribed by people..and somebody wrote it down wrong. Nobody caught it and at the last minute I did."

"I [told them] 'You CAN NOT get the Oath wrong! We had a meeting about this..this is where [the fans] will murder you.' But it was amazing finally saying it for the first time."

Reynolds appears to have inundated himself in Green Lantern mythology; he has yet to be stumped by a reporters question about the character's transition from comics to film. Knowing that he has learned so much about the popular storyline outside of the script will hopefully ease fan worry as they wait for more official images and video of the film.

"The film is very close to Secret Origins, that Geoff Johns worked on as well..The die hard fans, the purists, are going to be very happy. We've departed in very few ways from the source material."

He is the kind of actor that truly cares about his characters. He actually wants the Deadpool movie to be done more true to the comics and he minus white gloves cares for his new role as Hal Jordan

This is encouraging news. It shows me that Reynolds is really taking this role seriously, and truly CARES about "getting it right". Experience shows that when you have an actor who really cares about the character he's playing, it shows onscreen, and the movie is much better for it.

Reynolds certainly is correct: messing up the Oath would melt the Internet with fan anger! To quote the immortal Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons: "There is not an emoticon for what I'm feeling!" Thank God Reynolds caught that error in time!

I would watch all of you guys do him.;}

Seriously though, I don't know why everyone was so down on Reynolds for this part. He has a wide range as an actor and he damn sure looks like Hal Jordan.

I don't beleive I have ever anticipated a DC film this much. Yes, I love Batman but Green Lantern has more potential to just be a screengasm.

BACK ON TOPIC

He is right, the fans would murder him and trash the rest of the film if the oath was wrong. That is very essential to the film, to the point that you know in the theaters when it is recited, every fan will be saying it too. Glad he cared and saw the error to that. Its amazing that I have known it since I was 8
