HULK Actor Mark Ruffalo Weighs In On The Tension Between Marvel And Universal

We already know that the Jade Giant is going to be making an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok, and Mark Ruffalo talks here about why the bad feeling between Marvel Studios and Universal is holding back a solo outing for The Hulk as well as his future as part of the MCU...

Are we ever going to see the Green Goliath in his own movie after the mixed response to The Incredible Hulk back in 2008? Well, while Marvel Studios may have congratulated Universal on the success of Jurassic World earlier this year, there's clearly still some bad feeling between the two studios, though it does sound as if things are on their way to be resolved. "I think they’ve been working on it," Mark Ruffalo explained in a recent interview with Yahoo Movies. "Marvel and Universal famously don’t get along very well, and so that’s working against us, definitely. But I know for a fact that everyone is holding out hope that one day we can do it. But the nature of the relationship right now, it’s a little prohibitive. And I hope that that changes, that changes with regimes, it changes over the course of time. But right now it doesn’t look particularly promising."

Asked if the apparent bad feeling between the two studios could ultimately lead to a deal similar to what happened with Marvel and Sony, Ruffalo added: "Yeah, I think ultimately that’s what they’re after, it working out for both sides. But like I said, Marvel and Universal are just not having a good time together right now." As for Thor: Ragnarok, the actor confirmed that it's still very early days for the movie which will unite the God of Thunder with The Hulk. "They’re still writing the script. That’ll start shooting this summer. In June. There’s still a lot of work to do on that." Oh, and is he going to be in Captain America: Civil War? "They’re saving me, so I’m told," he reiterated. Do you think we'll see a solo movie for The Hulk in the near future? Share your thoughts below.

Really want to see a Planet Hulk or World War Hulk.

Wouldn't mind a storyline introducing the Leader and Red Hulk.

@Th0rOdinson

I'm thinking something similar, but I think it will be Thor approaching Hulk or Loki approaching Hulk while he's still on earth.

No Red Hulk, please God.

I like Hulk as a one-time Gamma freak. Adding more just like him makes him less of an accident.

Red Hulk is stupid. Like having Lex wear a battle suit. Takes away from the character and makes the character another villain for the hero to punch.

Give me the Leader damnit.

Until Marvel decides to make Hulk more than a non-speaking rage goliath, they really can't do much movie-wise.

Let the Hulk speak. Have him contribute to the universe in a more meaningful way. Explore the Banner/Hulk dynamic, for the love of god. I don't care what Whedon or Ruffalo say, there was no indication in either Avengers films that the Hulk and Banner are two separate entities. The only thing I've discerned is that MCU Hulk is basically a 'roided out Banner. Other than Stark's "Don't mention puny Banner" and Ruffalo's "The other guy" line, there has been nothing indicating any of it.

I don't need a Hulk solo right now. The CGI gets kinda old.
On the other hand, a solo movie of that Ninja Turtle Doomsday would be a blast. Hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

I'm still so jazzed about him joining Ragnarok, I know people think it's unnecessary but the pairing feels so right in a "trust your gut" sort of way. And for those jonesing for a talking Hulk, I don't think you'll be disappointed in Thor: Ragnarok. I really hope Ragnarok is the "breakout" film in phase 3. In other words, the very unexpectedly awesome film that really stepped up to the plate.

Haha.. Jollem thinks that Marvel/Disney are running some sort of charity for nerds rather than a lucrative business.

It's unfortunate because I loved Hulk in the Avengers, only to be completely and utterly let down in Age of Ultron. And that's not because of the Black Widow storyline. I'm in the minority who didn't mind that. It's the fact that they use Hulk as an object more than a character. We don't get to have any personal, internal, meaningful conflict within that half of the character. We didn't even see an onscreen transformation INTO the Hulk in AOU. Just a bungled mess, which sucks, because he's one of my favourite Marvel characters. Sad that the closest they've come to properly portraying the Banner/Hulk relationship was in Ang Lee's film.

Marvels best and most unique supercharacter still struggling to get a solo flick.
Cash rules everything around me i guess.

I know I will get some hate for this, but I'd prefer a solo Namor film than Hulk. Seeing how the Atlanteans play into the MCU would be great. There is so much with using creatures from the deep and I really want to see that on screen.

Universal also has the rights to Namor.

@Jeight Agreed. Ruffalo clearly has a passion to do the character justice. Not to say Norton didn't, but Ruffalo really nails the awkward vulnerability needed for Banner.

I think I'm probably the only person who doesn't give a f*ck about Namor. I've never seen the appeal of his character at all. But hey, whatever floats your boat ;-)

@MattBellissimo

I personally am not a big Namor fan, but I do want to see how the Atlanteans would play into the universe. It would be interesting to see how people react when they find out alien species have lived underwater for years. That is why I want to see a Namor movie. Because it opens up a whole new universe to explore.

Relatively certain I'm the only one that loved Bana as Banner. Didn't like the movie, especially Nolte being whatever kind of weird Absorbing Man they made him. But Bana and Jennifer Connelly were both great. Not to mention Sam Elliot is a much better Ross than William Hurt.

After the Avengers, the general audience fell in love by the new Hulk! People would love to watch a solo Ruffalo/Hulk movie, me included. I think MCU should work on this ASAP.
