Gwyneth Paltrow Confirms That Her Contract With Marvel Ended After IRON MAN 3
The actress reveals that despite making a brief appearance in The Avengers (which she still hasn't seen), her three picture deal with Marvel Studios ended with Iron Man 3. Is this the end for Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts?
While it was widely assumed that Gwyneth Paltrow was another star who had been signed up for a ridiculous number of Marvel movies, she has now told Empire Online that her contract expired with Iron Man 3! "My deal is over as well," she revealed when asked whether she think Robert Downey Jr. will make a return as the armoured Avenger. "When they signed us, they signed us for three. So that's it for the moment, but you never know." However, wasn't The Avengers her third appearance as Pepper Potts?! It turns out that she actually did that as a favour (although it would obviously be more than a little naive to assume she wasn't paid for the privilege). "The Avengers happened late. It was Robert who said that Pepper has to be in this movie or it's just giant snakes coming out of the sky. We need one grounded beat. And to be totally honest, I haven't seen the movie. It's crazy. My son has seen it, but I haven't. I went out to New Mexico for a day and shot... actually, maybe it was one and a half. Anyway, it was very short."
As for whether or not Paltrow could ultimately be convinced to return as Pepper, she added: "I don't think they're going to make a Pepper Potts movie, so it depends on Iron Man and Robert. I'd be open to more Pepper because I love working with Robert and it's a great franchise. Most of the time I'm a full-time mother so it's nice for me to once in a while go and work on a big hit movie with great actors and then go back to North London and resume playdates and stuff like that! I'm always happy when there's an opportunity to do it." Asked if fans should expect to once again see her suit up - Pepper is seen donning Tony's armour in some of the recently released TV spots and clips - Paltrow said she's open to the idea and revealed that it was a subject initially broached for Iron Man 2. "There was an amazing picture that was done for 2, where Pepper at the end was in a suit, but her helmet was off and all her hair was blowing. It looked awesome, but for whatever reason she didn't get in a suit in 2. I think that's great - now people really want to see her in the suit. Leave somewhere to go."
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
