Iron Man 2 Movie Exposé

The latest issue of Wizard Magazine offers a roundup of cast interviews, rumors and behind the scenes information regarding the highly anticipated Marvel Studios film Iron Man 2. Follow the jump for all the details. . .

In 2008 the world was introduced to Tony Stark, a dedicated war-monger whose genius intellect allowed him to corner the arms market with his futuristic technology. The film followed the unapologetic, billionaire playboy as he faced a great misfortune (no. . not impotence): his own weapons were used to make him a prisoner of war. As if capture by terrorists wasn't bad enough, he now had to rely on an outside power source to keep shrapnel from piercing his heart. We all know what happens next, Tony overcomes the odds and escapes confinement; becoming Iron Man in the process.

The film's sequel, due out May 2nd of this year, has audiences waiting and wondering: Will it meet or exceed our expectations of a comic movie sequel (ala The Dark Knight)? Or will it be just another over hyped, overcrowded sequel?

Wizard Magazine has recently released an in depth, behind the scenes look at the movie. Most notably, it ties in most of the information that's been slowly trickling out for months. First, the film's director Jon Favreau explains how the sotry is set up: "A lot of people wondered if we were going to follow the 'Demon in a Bottle' storyline [but] the tone in the first film isn't as dark as what's explored in the books. What we did want to go into was how he struggles with his own identity in the face of being a larger than life character who is. in fact, saving the world."

Since alcoholism won't be Tony's antagonist in the film, the crew had to find a villain that could challenge our hero both physically and mentally. Enter Ivan Vanko, or Mickey Rourke to be exact. Favreau was very excited when Rourke agreed to board the project, but his excitement amplified when he learned how seriously The Wrester star was taking the role.

"We informed Mickey that the character had done some time in a Russian prison. The next thing I heard, he was in a Russian prison! He chose to go there." Favreau jokingly suggested that Rourke may have had an ulterior motive for going to that extreme: "Apparently, the first American film that they got in Russia as a result of Perestroika was '9 1/2 Weeks'. So [Mickey] is a sex god in Russia."

Fans of the comics know that a villain by the name of Ivan Vanko was not a part of Iron Man's rogues gallery. So where did this new character come from? Favreau goes into detail about the deviation from the source material:

"For those of you who know the books, we're combining some characters in a way that stays true to the books but keeps you guys guessing a little bit. We combined Whiplash and [Anton] Vanko [the Crimson Dynamo]."

Here's a breakdown of the two separate characters - Anton Vanko was a Russian scientist who donned the Crimson Dynamo armor to battle Iron Man. Whiplash, or Mark Scarlotti, was a Stark Industries weapons designer. After becoming involved with organized crime he designed a pair of high-voltage whips that strike with the force of lightning bolts. From the information we've been given regarding Ivan Vanko (Rourke's character) he can discern that he is Anton Vanko's son utilizing the Whiplash technology instead of the Crimson Dynamo suit. If anyone is worried about watching a hybrid character like Vanko/Whiplash, you can rest easy. Favreau doesn't make modifications to the Marvel Universe without careful planning, "Any changes won't be made out of ignorance."

One of film's stars, Sam Rockwell, has indicated that Ivan Vanko is a fan of Tony Stark until Justin Hammer (his character) forces the Russian into becoming a villain through pressure and manipulation.

Two mechanically enhanced main characters isn't enough this time around, Jim Rhodes will don the fan favorite War Machine armor. 'Rhodey', played by Don Cheadle, will be an integral part of Tony's struggle with the government; so we should expect to see plenty of War Machine in action. "I looked on the [shooting] schedule," Cheadle said, "and I think the CGI version of Rhodey worked as many days as I did." A big question of fan's minds is whether the government has gone to the expense of creating their own armored warrior, with gadgets including shoulder-mounted self targeting machine gun that can engage adversaries in 360 degrees, in an attempt to bring in the Golden Avenger. Robert Downey Jr. gives his insight into that possibility: "Well I get that sense from the footage we've shown. But it could be a misdirect."

Downey believes that the conflict between his character and Rhodey is integral to the film's story; not so much as rivals but as competitive equals. "I got from the comic books [was] that when Tony and Rhodey hung out, it would always be a toss up between which one of them would get laid first. With Don [Cheadle], he's someone who is not intimidated by me in any way. So, I wanted to bring that to the screen as much as possible.

The War Machine armor has yet to make it's big screen debut, but Cheadle has already faced rumors regarding a possible spin-off film. "People have asked, but no one [in authority] has mentioned it as something that's happening. Hopefully, if this one goes well, there'll be another [Iron Man film] with the same people. But there won't be a War Machine spin-off."

Rhodes isn't the only government representative that Stark has choice words with. Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, Director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (or you can call it S.H.I.E.L.D.) "We're going to be looking at Tony needing help, working with other people. One of our themes is that no man is an island," said Jon Favreau. Downey gives a bit more detail about how that theme will appear on film, "At a certain point, Tony is approached by Nick Fury, who is wondering what it's like for him not to have any backup."

The film will further explore not just the world of Iron Man, but the Marvel movie-verse as well. "[Tony faces issues] that are more pertinent than his immediate survival," says Downey, "confronting issues that are beyond the realm of easy understanding even for someone as bright as he is." Should audiences ready themselves for a more fantasy elements in the Iron Man films? Many fans are hoping to see mention of Iron Man's nemesis the Mandarin, but with Marvel's next feature film currently in production, this statement could be pointing towards the introduction of Thor.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see exactly what surprises Favreau and crew have in store for the film's final cut. Their highest priority is secrecy. "With the level of curiosity, it's very hard to not open every Christmas present before the release date." said the director. "On the first film, Nick Fury was out there on [the internet] less than a week after we did it. We shot with a skeleton crew on a dark day, we thought we were so clever. It's a cat and mouse game that we play."

The interest to see as much of the film as possible before it's release is understandable considering how disappointed fans have been in the past with horrid adaptations of their favorite characters. Favreau promises that he too understands. He has seen fans "punished by studios that don't care about them. We'd [just] like there to be some surprises then next May comes around."

Here are a few interesting finds from next month's issue of Wizard Magazine:

- Iron Man 2 opens showing Tony Stark facing a major struggle where both his mood and armor are grimy and ragged.

- Favreau has confirmed that the exoskeleton armor Whiplash wears in the film's trailer is his "first attempt at technology".

- Black Widow wasn't the only option for Scarlett Johansson to play, Favreau was considering her for the role of Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlett Witch.

- Mickey Rourke felt that his character (Whiplash) should have a pet, just as a way to humanize him. After much discussion, a Cockatoo joined the crew.

Pick up the February issue of Wizard Magazine today for more information on Iron Man 2 including an interview with Scarlett Johansson and more details from Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle.

WarNoodle - 1/23/2010, 6:04 PM
FREAKIN A!!! both me and ToMMan are fisters!! LOL.
WarNoodle - 1/23/2010, 6:04 PM
I LIKE THIS LOOK FOR WHIPLASH...

THIS ONE LOOKS WIERD..

GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 6:09 PM
i hope we get some extremis in this as i think stark will be severely threatened by whiplash...also im certain hammer will make whiplash don the crimson dynamo suit at the end as a big surprise...
i hope we see war machine go up against iron man a bit cuz that would rock...but to have them team up against mandriods or the hammer bots would be sweet...esp if crimson dynamo is lurking! the cast looks great so far...as for scarlett witch? wtf...why did fav consider her? for avengers? i thought fox had her rights!
also i hope fury is ever present trying to goad stark into shield and we see interaction, even easter eggs, with ross, maybe thor or a cap reference as well...hell if we get widow, why not a hawkeye glimpse?...cant wait to see the setup for im3 as well as avengers cuz i know fav will hint at the end...and i wanna see mandarin's 10 rings syndicate making a cameo for the next film...
fav has a lot cut out but he is the man for this job
Anil Rickly - 1/23/2010, 6:12 PM
Nice! Has Anyone seen this one? I cant find it anywhere else? It's War Machine but what the heck is that thing on his arm?

I - 1/23/2010, 6:13 PM
that's a francisco mattina cover...his war machines were amazing covers in 2009....sick...and so too are his azrael covers at dc for 09...
war machine was able to integrate recently with all sorts of tech such as tanks, jets etc...he literally could have them join his arsenal sort of like transformers...
the recent series got cancelled by marvel but it was well done and he did piss and screw over osborn...but it meandered a lot....it was decent though...
i look fwd to him post dark reign..maybe he'll be a teacher in avengers academy or perhaps a west coast avenger again
Anil Rickly - 1/23/2010, 6:18 PM
@ I--DUDE ITS WARMACHINES NEW THING, HIS ARMOR CAN ASSIMILATE TECH INTO IT, INCORPORATING IT INTO HIS ARMOR, YOU THROW HIM INTO A TANK AND HE BLENDS HIS ARMOR WITH IT AND HE HAS TANK TREADS WITH A CANNON OR HE CAN BLEND WITH A WARPLANE AND TAKE ON ITS CHARACTERISTICS, WEAPONRY ECT..ITS A VERY COOL THING. HE IS EVEN MORE WAR MACHINE THAN EVER..SETS HIM APART FROM IRON MAN AND MAKES HIM EVEN MORE UNIQUE I THINK.

PRETTY BAD ASS I THINK..
GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 6:19 PM
I know Im gonna get a bunch of hate comments for saying this but here it goes:

The first Iron Man is overated. The only thing that was good in that movie was RDJ's performance. Everything else sucked. Plus there wasnt even that much action in it. Im still going to go see the sequel though.
Ozymandias - 1/23/2010, 6:19 PM
Don't worry Ozy, there's a new Super Hero Squad episode on tomorrow. Plenty of action for you there :)
MultiPurposePoni - 1/23/2010, 6:22 PM
Thanks for the response guys, I did not want to steal the thunder of this great article but I really wanted to know about that armor. I've never heard of this cool New War Machine stuff. Thanks.
I - 1/23/2010, 6:24 PM
Yay! Thanks @Poni! Ill watch it for sure tomorrow!:) j/k
Ozymandias - 1/23/2010, 6:24 PM
@ GUNSMITH @ Anil Rickly - AWESOME! Thanks for the pics!

I - 1/23/2010, 6:25 PM
I@...WE'RE ALL MAJOR SUPER GEEKS ON COMICS, THIS WOULD BE THE PLACE TO FIND US..HEHE
GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 6:26 PM
So is Whiplash going to have the armor or what?
I - 1/23/2010, 6:27 PM
OZY: Are you [frick]ing crazy you $&*$£%&* &£^£%"!?!

Lol, only joking but seriously man I cant believe you think that!! I would say that Iron Man is better than Watchmen!

How can you say that everything apart from RDJ's acting sucked? Jeff Bridges sucked? The actually interesting (for a change!) origins? The awesome AC/DC intro? The brilliant CGI and action scened? Not to mention, the awesome "I am Iron Man" ending or Nick Fury cameo!!! Unbelievable..! ;)

Great find MULTI! I dont think I've seen that Whiplash image before and its interesting to read about Favreau almost casting Johannsen as Scarlet Witch...a sign that her and Quicksilver belong to Marvel perhaps?
JoshW - 1/23/2010, 6:28 PM
SUPPOSEDLY HE'S JUST LIKE TONY STARK, EXACTLLY GETTING OUT OF IMPRISONMENT THE SAME WAY, GOING AFTER HIS ENEMY RIGHT AFTER BREAKING FREE USING HIS MAKESHIFT ARMOR JUST LIKE STARK DID IN THE FIRST MOVIE, THEN, IM ASSUMING HE'LL DO WHAT STARK DID AFTER..IMPROVE ON THE DESIGN..IF HE HOOKS UP WITH HAMMER..THATS RESOURCES AND TECH RIGHT THERE FOR HIM TO USE.
GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 6:30 PM
@ GUNSMITH - True.

"With the level of curiosity, it's very hard to not open every Christmas present before the release date."

Interesting..
I - 1/23/2010, 6:32 PM
@ Ozy, maybe this is more your cup o' tea?

thehumantorch - 1/23/2010, 6:37 PM
@josh: I didn't like it that much. It just seemed boring to me. I did like The Incredible Hulk though.

@thehumantorch: Eh...I think I'll pass lol:)
Ozymandias - 1/23/2010, 6:37 PM
just no war machine in avengers first film...and no talks of a war machine spin off please...i mean his villains are okie but god...just like elektra...dont overdo the spinoff crap marvel...rhodes is to be kept for im2 and im3...nothing else
Anil Rickly - 1/23/2010, 6:37 PM
Great find Multi. I did an artice about a month ago that talked about there being a possibility of Thor showing up in Iron Man, I hope its true.
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2010, 6:37 PM
I AGREE WITH YOU OZ. IRON MAN was very overated. I really aint excited for this movie at all. If the character has only ONE memorable villain then they should just make one movie with that villain. Ironman's villains suck. They should have done one movie with Mandarin as the villain then wait for an Avengers movie to do anything with Stark.
Joey Misfit - 1/23/2010, 6:37 PM
@I...check all mattina's covers and u wud be blown away..war machine and azrael from 2009.///OMG they rock
Anil Rickly - 1/23/2010, 6:38 PM
FOUND A PIC OF NEW WHIPLASH ARMORE SRAIGHT FROM IRON MAN 2 SET!!!

ITS AMAZING!
GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 6:39 PM
I actually used to think IM was overrated, not that it was bad, I thought it was very well done, but not awesome as a lot of people said. But, after re-watching it many times since then, I have to admit, it is damn awesome. One of my top 5 fav. CBM's. Though I wouldn't say it was better than Watchmen, Dark Knight, or Spider-Man 1, which are my top 3, respectively.

I'm very excited for IM 2. I'm glad they aren't going full-on alcoholic Stark with this one. But I hope Whiplash updates his armor to be more than just what we've seen so far. Not really digging it's look at the moment.
InTylerWeTrust - 1/23/2010, 6:41 PM
OZY- WHAT THE F***! no just kidding!..but really..WTF!

GUN- Is that second pic a David Finch drawing?..looks
kind of like his style..just wondering.

GREAT ARTICLE..by the way..I don't think this movie
is going to be "too crowded" persay..I think
it is going to be a FANBOY's (me) WET DREAM!!
peterparker420 - 1/23/2010, 6:41 PM
@ GUNSMITH No you didn't
I - 1/23/2010, 6:42 PM
Im looking forward to Thor, more than Iron Man 2 and TFA: Captain America actually!
Ozymandias - 1/23/2010, 6:43 PM
Wow! love this post. but since scarlet johanson was also considered for Wanda Maximoff does that mean we could see a bit of Scarlett Witch?!
captainam86 - 1/23/2010, 6:46 PM
I'm not critisizing anyone who didn't enjoy Iron Man. Everybody has their own tastes. But if you didn't enjoy Iron Man, what CBM's did you enjoy? Ozy I know you liked Watchmen.

What I mean is, its right there at the top of the most well made CBM list. Which ones did you enjoy?

HEEEYYYYY!!! Maybe thats who Olivia Munn is playing.
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2010, 6:47 PM
@ Anil Rickly - You are right, I am floored! I got to get my hands on those comics somehow.
I - 1/23/2010, 6:47 PM
captainam86: IDK bout seein Scarlett Witch in IM2, but in that pic I see a bit of Cameltoe! Hahaha
<---Tatu LIKES!
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/23/2010, 6:52 PM
GUN- AWESOME WHIPLASH!!
peterparker420 - 1/23/2010, 6:53 PM
that would be weak to have the maximoff siblings appear in avengers before they did in xmen (even if in the slightest x-appearance) but i guess that's the way the cookie crumbles...hawkeye, cap and thor...cant wait to see these guys on screen...
im2 best have a thor or cap reference...id luv a hulk cameo
Anil Rickly - 1/23/2010, 6:56 PM
YEAH PETER PARKER, I THINK ITS NICE ARMOR
GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 6:57 PM
In all seriousness tho, Iron Man was a Great Film, & Iron Man 2 will be great, but to me there's points where it ALREADY could be Better. Just little things like
1) This "Hybrid" of 2 Iron Man foes to 1 in the new "Whiplash"
2) When I heard the News of Emily Blunt playing Black Widow, I came....Don't get me wrong, ScarJo is hott, but I think that Emily Blunt could have made that Character more significant than ScarJo will.
3) Saved best for LAST, & that is the fact that Don Cheadle is the new "Rhodey"! When things like this happen in Film Franchises it totally throws it off, even w/ TDK & Maggie G, I hate Katie Holmes but still, the role was hers & that's who we recognized, but for Terrence Howard? Especially when we heard reports that we WERE going to see War Machine's Armor?!? Dudes a GREAT ACTOR, NOT GOOD, GREAT! & to me had a Chemistry w/ RDJ that you could tell was worked on. & No matter what everybody knows that little hint in Movie 1 where he looks @ the Mach2 & says, "Next Time" You geeked! Don Cheadle is a Great Actor as well, I'm not knocking him, but as I said, throws the movie off! Especially the way it went down, yes, Howard probably wanted more $$ but he was still gonna do it, I mean that's probably why he took the role in IM1 so he could put on the armor in Part2. & then for them not even to tell him he was replaced?!? Bullshit! Ugh anyways gunna love the movie, even when I know I'm gonna see the movie w/ people who have no Idea about ComicBooks but saw IM1, & they're gonna whisper "who's that?!? wheres the other guy?!?" DAMMIT *Tatu SHAKES FIST IN UPSET RAGE*
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/23/2010, 7:08 PM
did anybody actually see watchmen..??
It was a piece of shiii..just kidding
I mean, it was mediocre, not bad but it's nowhere as good as iron man. @Ozy iron man isn't actually overrated, actually it was overshadowed by the dark knight, when TDK came out, nobody was talking about iron man.
FifthSun - 1/23/2010, 7:15 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we all make fun of Scarjo months ago when she made a comment about playing The Scarlet Witch?
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2010, 7:18 PM
Am "I" the only one who did not like Terrance Howard as Rodie? I thought his acting was good but his personality does not match the Rodie in the comics, maybe it's just me. War Machine has an edge to him, I did not see the killer instinct in Terrance in the first movie. I found Terrance SOFT, yes I went ahead and said that, "SOFT," I thought him to be sweet, and sweet just aint Rodie
I - 1/23/2010, 7:21 PM
I RATHER HAVE CHEADLE ANYWAY, HE'S A HIGHER CALIBER ACTOR
GUNSMITH - 1/23/2010, 7:23 PM
I: I actually agree with you there - the guy is a decent actor but I could never actually imagine him suiting up as War Machine..!

Guys, dont forget to check out my SPIDER-WOMAN Fan Cast under "Fan Fic"!!! :)
JoshW - 1/23/2010, 7:37 PM
I- NO you are NOT the only one!..I did "geek" when he
said next time" in IM1..but that was his best line!
sure he did his job as an actor..but a good actor
would of jumped at the chance to play WM..and he
DIDN'T to him is was all about the money..But the
DON is the man in ALL the "ocean's" movie's so
I welcome the change!

FifthSun- I LOVED WATCHMEN!..I cannot say one bad thing
about the EPICNESS of that movie!..If they
used the "giant squid" at the end I think it
would have RUINED the whole feel of the movie
(just my opinion) (not that you said anything
about the squid..I'm just saying)..But in
comparison..to IRON MAN..to me IRON MAN..
was BETTER..it was also a totally different
"feel"..and YES TDK..overshadowed IM..just
cause it came out AFTER IM..but to me IM
was BETTER than TDK. (excepy for Heath Ledgers
performance..he was the PERFECT JOKER!)
peterparker420 - 1/23/2010, 7:38 PM
I think Howard is a very talented actor, but I don't think he was right for Rhodey. I'm sure there's some CBM role out there for him. But I did jizz in my pants when he said "Next time" as well. Come to think of it, I jizzed in my pants a lot during that movie, especially when Agent Coulson said "Just call us SHIELD"
InTylerWeTrust - 1/23/2010, 7:57 PM
I agree, I liked the "next time" line too, mainly because it war hint to War Machine
I - 1/23/2010, 8:09 PM
gzzzzuzzz all this comicbook film hype is overwhelming me. but I am more excited for Thor than any upcoming comicbook film and maybe Green Lantern
DGr8Nova - 1/23/2010, 8:13 PM
Dark Knight is the daddy of all those movies, so people please dk can't be compared, Dark Knight is better than Titanic and Avatar toogether
brazilianbatman - 1/23/2010, 8:18 PM
I have to admit, Jon Favreau is one of us. I think he just gets it, he gets us and he gets comic books. He's a geek like the rest of us and he films what he thinks we would love (to the greater extent). I guarantee he would pass on a film before he would let some slick movie exec fu*k it up with a bad script or sh*t actor, no matter how bad he would like to film it.

I'm so thankful he got involved in cbm's.
gtrman - 1/23/2010, 8:19 PM
The only decent CBM's now adays are films directed by the BIG 3:

-Zack Snyder
-Christopher Nolan
-Jon Favreau

Ozymandias - 1/23/2010, 8:20 PM
Damn, "I" must be the only one who thought Howard as Rhodey was great casting, Geez. Idk, I think he would've filled the suit in pretty perfect, but guess we'll never know.
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/23/2010, 8:22 PM
Just read an article... In case you haven't heard.. Scarlett Johansson won't be donning a Russian accent for the movie. :(

'Ms Johansson was also asked about the Russian origins of Black Widow in Iron Man 2, particularly whether she had an accent. The question of an accent has been raised by fans many times, so it's good to get a definitive answer.

She said: "She's covert, and I think that she blends in, it's not like she comes on to the scene and they're like 'Who's that Russian chick?'"

Clarifying that she didn't have a Russian accent, she added: "No, I think that would be a little bit of a dead giveaway, I don't know how covert you would be [if you had a Russian accent] but I would have [had one] if I had to."'

chrismatj - 1/23/2010, 8:35 PM
@Chrismatj: Hope that isnt true, if it is, I've just proven my point: EMILY BLUNT WOULDVE MADE A BETTER BLACK WIDOW.
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/23/2010, 8:39 PM
@Tyler: Yeah, I felt the same way. Just felt out of place as Rhodey for me.

@chrismatj: Yeah, we know; she said that awhile ago. It makes complete sense. If a spy like Black Widow couldn't cover her thick Cossack accent in an American business environment, she probably wouldn't have gotten that assignment to begin with.

I'm pretty sure if Favs wants her to have a Russian accent, she'll have one. Look at Mickey Rourke's character. Voice coaches aren't hard to come by in Hollywood.

@JonathanisMagnum1985: Let me get this straight, your point is that is ScarJo doesn't have a Russian accent in IM2 it proves that Emily Blunt would have been better?

Ummm. . . what? Is it because of the accent thing? Emily Blunt is British so it's not like she would have had a natural Cossack accent. To top it off, Emily doesn't have anything impressive on her resume compared to ScarJo. FAvs picked her for good reason. If they wanted authentic they could have gone with Olga Kurylenko.
MultiPurposePoni - 1/23/2010, 8:50 PM
im in agreement that as good actor howard is he didn't own the part, he's still a brilliant actor tho

good article, bring on bloody april :)
ukboy28 - 1/23/2010, 9:03 PM
OMG I WANNA SEE THIS MOVIE

Damn still 4 months left! There aren't enough video games for me to get sucked into until May.

DAMN DAMN DAMN

DAMNITY DAMN DAMN
Fartman - 1/23/2010, 9:06 PM
My point/opinion is that we couldve had a bit of a better actress for the The Black Widow. ScarJo as talented & hot as she is just seems like some eye candy for the role. who cares about whether a "Real Spy w/ an accent" couldve covered the accent, its a movie, & better, its about pulling off a character, & the fact is, Black Widow is Russian, hence, she needs a russian accent, which imo, Emily Blunt could've done. Plus, Blunt's a bit taller, so it would've been a better looking Widow, too.
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/23/2010, 9:08 PM
Hang on OZY - you pretty much said that the only good thing about Iron Man was RDJ and now you're saying that Favreau is in the top three directors of CBM's? WTF, lol!?! If everything to you sucked, how does that make Favs any good?

ukboy: Hell yeah man! :) Its great that the UK finally gets something early for a change, lol! Man, I'm glad we've seen the last of the snow!
JoshW - 1/23/2010, 9:08 PM
josh@ lol indeed sir :) we better be careful when we come in here afterwards lol

and no more snow is a god send, thank fcuk :0
ukboy28 - 1/23/2010, 9:12 PM
JonathanisMagnum1985: Though I get why she wont have an accent for a lot of the movie, I'm really hoping that the American accent is just a cover or that she'll at least have one when reporting to her superiors or something! I have to agree with you as well that based on looks, Blunt probably would've been the better choice...

BlackWidow

Still, I think Scarjo will do a great job! :)
JoshW - 1/23/2010, 9:14 PM
ukboy: Haha, I'm just going to struggle to stop myself giving away any spoilers! :P

The snow is ok for a while but it soon begins to piss me off! Everything just grinds to a halt!! And when I get all of my weekly comic books in the post, the delays kill me, lol! (I had to wait a week extra for Captain America: Reborn #5...Aarghhhh!!) ;D

JoshW - 1/23/2010, 9:17 PM
@ Josh, as do I, she'll be an awesome widow, if not Favs wouldnt have casted her...Thx for putting up that sideBYside, Damn, that's one hot Redheaded British Broad
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/23/2010, 9:17 PM
josh@ haha me to but i know that even one spoiler on here could cause a war lmao

very true man and living in a city who's usual weather is rain well it isn't pretty lol i haven't been on the comic scene for a long while(been to busy with life and my dad)but ive managed to get a lot of my on to my laptop, comical's one of my best friends lol
ukboy28 - 1/23/2010, 9:25 PM
I hope that the American accent is fake too. Hopefully, towards the end of the movie, they reveal her true accent. Then I'd be happier. I'm still grateful that the Widow's in the movie. To me.. It wouldn't have mattered if Emily Blunt was the Widow or ScarJo. They're both good actresses.
chrismatj - 1/23/2010, 9:52 PM
JOSH- HOLD ON..you get to see IM2..In APRIL??
And we (US) has to wait until MAY?!..WTF?

LEEE777 - 1/24/2010, 5:38 AM
@ joey misfit

you obviously don't know much about iron man if you think the Mandarin is his only good villain.

i think your forgetting Crimson Dynamo, Justin Hammer, Stane/Iron Monger, and Titanium Man?? or are characters who have given him the hardest time in his comic book career not "good" enough for you?
CorndogBurglar - 1/24/2010, 7:50 AM
i don't think Thor will physically be in this, but if everyone remembers, in The Ultimates, when Fury is trying to recruit Stark, he mentions a "guy that thinks he's the god Thor". or something along those lines

i wouldn't be surprised if he just mentions him like that.
CorndogBurglar - 1/24/2010, 7:52 AM
I can't believe some people are saying Iron Man is over-rated! Iron Man IMO was better than TDK. So what if it didn't have tonnes of action, it's Iron Man not Transformers. Story, character and acting are what' important not just "stuff blowing up"

Regarding the rest of the Marvel Universe I have a feeling Tony will mention the Hulk to Nick Fury. Like

Tony: How goes the search for the jolly green giant?

Nick: We're working on it...

just something like that y'know?! ;D
Ryden - 1/24/2010, 9:37 AM
Iron Man & TDK were 2 VERY different movies. So, really not one is better than the other. If you're more into really grounding your favorite ComicBook characters into a real world w/ very real things happening(murder, corruption)then BATMAN BEGINS/TDK is right up your Alley, Bar None! Theres no talks of other Heroes in Batman's "Nolan-Verse". Iron Man, totally diff film. At its core its a very entertaining film, has the perfect amount of quips/winks to let u know they are making a film about a ComicBook character but @ the same time, the actors do a great job of respecting the Marvel Universe & creating a world where u actually believe things like what goes on in the Marvel Universe can happen

@ Ryden: A Hulk Shout out in IM2 WOULD be Genius, Pure Genius!
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 1/24/2010, 10:13 AM
I'd really rather see a Hawkeye cameo (with Jeremy Renner) in IM 2, but that doesn't seem likely with all that shit about Hawkeye in Thor. Still, it would be a neat little surprise to see Clint Barton show up somewhere in IM 2...
InTylerWeTrust - 1/24/2010, 10:29 AM
BLUNT = JEAN GREY! no no, she dosent look that good.
CrashTest - 1/24/2010, 10:32 AM
PETE: Yup, we get it a whole week before you guys! I wouldnt even consider ruining it so you've got nothing to worry about!

JonathanisMagnum1985: Awesome man! :) Ah well, guess now we just have to hope she gets cast as Jean Grey or someone, lol!

TYLER: 100% agree man!

ackles is defn the only guy to play clint barton!!!
ive seen renner in hurt locker and id have him as us agent but he'd be a decent hawkeye also
Anil Rickly - 1/24/2010, 12:30 PM
Renner should definitely get a shot at the big leagues with Avengers after The Hurt Locker. Finally he's getting the recognition that he deserves. He's a vastly underrated actor, or, at least, he was.

Renner can play a like-able smart-ass perfectly, as shown by THL. Anti-authority, reckless, devoted, cocky, funny, all these qualities describe Renner's character in THL, and they also perfectly describe Clint Barton.

Jeremy Renner for Hawkeye ;)

I'm sick of seeing TDK being used as the new standard for CBMs. In a way I understand the logic considering its position in terms of overall reception and accessibility, but I don't think it's fair to make a compairison.

I know it's become cliche, but TDK is my favorite CBM. That being said, I absolutely loved Iron Man and that one's right up there too, and anything I say has nothing to do with a biased preference here. But these films on two different levels; I don't mean in a transcendental way, or regards to quality in the least; but rather in regards to approach - it's literally like night and day. It's all a matter of mood and opinion, not rule of majority.

And the sad thing is, most fanboys will probably think IM2 is better than TDK whether they actually really ever would or not, sacrificing any objectivity from an unbiased viewpoint simply based on the amount of time that's passed since its release - people have forgotten how excited they were. They've forgotten about all the anxious hours spent scouring the internet for a glimpse of the Joker, the WSS campaign, speculating on Two-Face, and dying to see a trailer. It's simply the subconscious effects of time. I swore I'd never forget the hype TDK was responsible for among fans, I'm just afraid too many others have.
Joker08 - 1/24/2010, 1:12 PM
@ joker

there were just as many people speculating for just as many hours about iron man! but to me, iron man was more faithful to the comics, and it had everything. good action, good story development, great acting, fantastic humor...all around, it was just more entertaining to me :)

to put it another way, i own both on dvd, and i've watched Iron Man twice as many times as TDK, i just love it :)
CorndogBurglar - 1/24/2010, 2:38 PM
@CorndogBurglar:

That's awesome. As far as tastes go, I know there are plenty of folks who would take IM over BB or TDK any day. And that's fine. I'm just saying people tend to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to CBMs, it's a trend to call the latest CBM their new favorite.

But there are those of us (like you and I, and plenty of people here) who have their head about them when it comes down to that. I just hate seeing TDK being used as the standard is all.

I own both on DVD as well, and I am well aware of all the IM2 speculation here :) I see IM as more of a modern adaptation of the source material and TDK as more of realistic translation of the mythos, if that makes sense. My point being, it's the content of the film that defines it, not the level of hype. That's why I'm bothered by the comparison...

So I definitely agree with you :) I didn't mean to come off as "EVERYONE loved TDK the most and now EVERYONE is digging IM2," but I'm afraid I may have. I think it's more of a general public thing anyway - it will always be a trend.

That aside, I can't wait for IM2! It's got me the most excited I've been for a film in awhile! It's just that comparison that bugs me...
Joker08 - 1/24/2010, 4:46 PM
@Joker08- i agree tdk is my fav cbm but i also loved ironman both were great films and IMO should not be compared but apreciated and honored as great adaptations of comic books
jok3rsc0usin - 1/24/2010, 4:54 PM
@jok3ersc0usin: Couldn't agree with you more :)

Joker08 - 1/24/2010, 5:17 PM
Scarlett for Scarlet Witch? Huh. Haven't heard anything about that before and she would have been good. Maybe Scarlett With will have a cameo or maybe he was considering her for the Avengers movie, possibly?
batcavepwnsphonebooth - 1/25/2010, 4:27 PM
Hey, nice article! Wish I would've found this one.
