The fan movement for more live-action Dredd is being reborn as "Bring Back Dredd". The 2012 live-action Dredd film from director Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and written by Alex Garland (Ex Machina) was praised by critics and fans alike but earned $45 M USD at the global box office from a budget of $41 M USD. This time, the call is going out for fans to grab the attention of streaming platforms like Hulu, Amazon or Netflix (along with HBO) in hopes that a sequel to the film can come in the form of a TV series. The petition is already at 136,000 signatures. Click the link to add your name to the list.
Instead calling on fans to sign a petition, would 2000 AD be better off going the kickstarter route and asking for donations? A character as popular as Judge Dredd should be able to drum up a couple million dollars from fans around the world. That's not enough for a feature film but perhaps it's enough for a digital series in the vein of Mortal Kombat: Legacy or Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist.
