Released in 2012, DREDD was an excellent comic book movie which for some reason failed to find an audience. However, like Firefly and Veronica Mars before it, fans have really got behind the Judge Dredd adaptation in the hope of making a sequel a reality. We've been teased with that possibility a number of times over the years, but nothing has ever happened, and it really does seem as if the franchise is dead. Or is it? Talking during his panel Saturday afternoon at Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, star Karl Urban revealed that "conversations are happening" about a DREDD series at either Netflix or Amazon, a sign perhaps that all that fan support has finally begun to pay off.
That's great news on the surface, but if we're being realistic, those talks may not amount to much more than one person asking those online streaming services if they want to make a DREDD series, and them giving a "No" in response! We're just going to have to wait and see, but when you take into account what has been done with the likes of Daredevil, it's easy to imagine Judge Dredd being able to live on on the small screen (the budget for the movie wasn't exactly huge, and great things are being done on TV now).
