Now, with the fload of Justice League news over the past week, things just sound much better for the sequel to the panned Batman V Superman. It's a team movie, which means more heroes and more humour, albeit the Flash and Cyborg. Batman and Wonder Woman are the leaders of the team, while Superman is creeping on the background waiting to come back...anytime now.
Anyway, the movie is a big damn deal; it's the first movie that will showcase the legendary superhero team which was the first superhero team in comics, and to be honest, things didn't look good for the movie. The man who made BVS was in charge of Justice League, and only disaster awaited. Until the savior Geoff Johns arrived and with the help of the O'Holy Batman, Ben Affleck stopped the tyrany of Zack Snyder...well, after Justice League, atleast.
So, will the movie fail or succed? Here's 5 Reasons why Justice League might succeed in every way.
1. Learning From The Past
Remember the outstanding hype for BATMAN V SUPERMAN? It was something that never happened before and that got many fans excited on the premise alone: Batman and Superman AND Wonder Woman on the screen, together, for the very first time, it was exciting times. But then it ALL got ruined by the negative reaction to the movie and the actual film.
It got wrong characterizations of the DC characters it was putting on screen, had a messy storyline, dumb character decisions and did they really make a 4-hour movie and cutted it down to just 2 hours and some minutes? Why make it so long in the first place? That's not even covering the half of why BVS is such a frustrating movie. It did de-service to it's characters, and hurt it's universe, which it tried to set-up so much...through an email. Yep. But with Justice League, it looks like Snyder and Co have learned from the bad reception and made things better, according to an interview.
Now, i don't know to what extent they have learned from the aftermath of BVS, but time shall tell.
2. Cheering Up
A common and very loud complaint about DC Films is that nowdays they are just dark and gritty and emotionless. Which is not really true, but BVS cemented that. Not everything needs to be hit with the Nolan-ray. BVS followed that ugly trend which should have ended with the Dark Knight trilogy, but according to set reports, Flash is a funny ass dude and is by far the best character in the movie, which is reasonable, he is the Flash and that Ezra Miller nailed the part, which is comforting.
The movie needs some humour, as we got a brooding Batman and Superman, we don't need a brooding Flash or Cyborg or any brooding hero, limit that to Batman!.
3. Not Rushing & Going Big
Look, the news that Steppenwolf was going to be the villain of Justice League might have dissapointed us all, but it's good: Because, they need to keep Darkseid for the next installments. It's important to focus on the team, not the villain, but the villain does have ties to Darkseid which could shake things up, when Darkseid fights the League in the next films.
The film isn't rushing; if we analyze that the Avengers was the 6th film in the MCU and JL is the fifth in the DCEU, so would we call the Avengers a rushed movie? No, both aren't rushed. Justice League was planned from the start, and i am happy about that; rushing is the worst possible way you could approach a movie of this scale and importance.
So, that's that.
4. A Perfect Combination
Say what you will about Zack Snyder but the man makes absolute GORGEOUS movies, and the cinematography in BVS was majestic and all of his movies were the same and Justice League needs that kind of flare. The visuals are one thing but with the story it's quite another, Zack makes convoluted, messy and outright bad stories, when he is given control (Sucker Punch, BVS).
But with a talented writer like Chris Terrio free from a template to use from David S.(Sucks) Goyer and Geoff Johns, who understands the characters and is one of the best writers in comics today, even of all time. With Ben Affleck also taking part in consulting. Who is an award-winning screenwriter who's written films like The Town, Argo and Gone, Baby Gone. It's talented town over here.
5. Hopefully It Will Have A Clear Slate By Then
With Suicide Squad coming out on August and Wonder Woman coming out on a later date, will Justice League be the follow-up and believe me, DC needs a win on their movies. With Suicide Squad looking out to be awesome, and a clear improvement over BVS. With Wonder Woman, while Zack Snyder is a major part of it, i hold my hype intact because of Patty Jenkins and the love the crew obviously has for the movie and Gal is always a win.
Suicide Squad has gotten good buzz, which hopefully means that the movie does well and DCEU isn't perceived as a 'total failure'.
CONCLUSION - What Do You Think?
What do YOU think? Do you think Justice League will improve the universe and be great or a complete misfire like BVS?
