We all wondered if Justice League Dark/Dark Universe would even get off the ground once original director Guillermo del Toro parted ways with the project, but Variety just announced that Warner Bros. has replaced him with none other than Doug Liman, who will be most familiar to CBMers for the likes of The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow.

Though story details are under wraps for now, the site does confirm that the team will consist of Det. John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. It seems this incarnation of ol' JC shall be a lawman.

Del Toro and Scott Rudin will produce Dark Universe, which is expected to "play a major role in the new D.C. Cinematic Universe"

UPDATE: As many assumed given this news, it appears Liman will no longer direct Fox's Gambit movie.

@ALostCause - I think this is great news, people raved about Ayers who was about 50-50 at best at making good movies, but Liman has brought it over and over again, Swingers, Go, Fair Play, Bourne Identity, and Edge of Tomorrow, and that's a broad spectrum of movies to be able to handle. I just won't hold Jumper against him.

@TheUnworthyThor - i don't mind jumper, he is a really promising director, but i think the most important thing is whether or not wb will even use his ideas or just tell him what to do.

I think eventually WB is going to learn their lesson. I predicted with The Flash so hopefully that and this and others will be the beginning of the good DCEU.
