Batman is a character that has always had a long line of suits and armor to be used for different outcomes; the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice saw the character take on Superman in heavy battle armor, and it looks like the trend isn't stopping with Justice League. We've already received some hints as to what we can expect when Batman assembles the team next year, and now, in an interview with Cinemablend during their visit to the Justice League set, costume designer Michael Wilksinson gave the website a few more details on the additions to Batman's suits in the anticipated team-up film.
According to Cinemblend, Batman's classic suit will remain mostly the same, but there will be an addition of armor plates found under the grey carbon-fiber mesh weave of the suit. It's pronounced in the stomach and the chest of Batman's suit, and it exists to give him more protection in the heat of battle. One detail the design team wanted to accentuate this time was Batman's gauntlets, which weren't all that utilized in Batman v Superman. "One new detail is that Zack [Snyder] wanted a little more sense of armor and deflection on his gauntlets when he is shot at, and so I designed these [gloves] that are kind of based on the samurai. We know from Bruce Wayne's history that he studied martial arts in Japan, so I thought that could be appropriate. But we sort of modernized it with a Wayne Tech aesthetic here. It's a little more aggressive." The site also describes a new cowl that Wilkinson and his team have designed for Batman: ...it's implied that, inside the cowl, there's this whole membrane and a protective system. But now it also comes with new and enhanced ways for Batman to communicate with Alfred, as well as other members of the Justice League. The inside of the cowl, in addition to having a mold that fits Ben Affleck's face, is a mess of wires and gadgets that assist Batman in his crime-fighting duties.
We also know that Batman will be donning what has been dubbed the "Tactical Batsuit", which was glimpsed in the background of a photo featuring Zack Snyder and Jason Momoa. According to Wilkinson, in the final act of Justice League, Wayne realizes he needs to "step up his game," and this tactical suit will allow him to take on powerful forces (presumably Steppenwolf and Parademons) without losing a step. According to Cinemablend, the designers had an image of Dwayne Johnson from G.I. Joe: Retaliation on their design board, and were using the body armored look as inspiration. The tactical suit will also utilize goggles that will assist Batman in piloting one of his new vehicles, and these goggles will pay homage to Batman's classic white eyes in the comic books. "We loved the way, in the comic books, that Batman's always drawn with these white flashes for eyes. So we played around with ways of doing that, and realized that they would sort of catch the light, to call to mind that classic age from the comic books," said Wilkinson.
