SPOILERS: Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - 5 Things That Needed Change

The Ultimate Cut of BATMAN V SUPERMAN was just released, fixing some of the movie's flaws and shortcomings. But should the movie just changed some things all together? From deaths of important characters, to wrong castings and plotholes...

It's going great today. I mean, what's better than sitting down and watching a movie? Nothing? Ding, ding, you're correct. Now, sitting in to watch a 3 hour film is a completely different situation. 3 Hours? Jesus. BVS was always intented to be a longer movie than what was presented in theaters and Zack Snyder atleast unleashed his full film onto to the world, with no holding back.
The Ultimate Edition of BVS was just released and features extra 30 minutes of film. My verdict on it is *drums hitting* it's still the same movie, just fleshed out a bit more. People liking this cut of the film is far from a crime, but the cut just makes the movie flow better and adds more development to it's plot and characters. That's it. But if you liked the cut, that's alright, but even the recently released cut hasn't made me change my mind about some aspects of the film.
So, here's 5 things that shoulda have been changed or put in the film, and remember, this is my opinion so don't get panties in a twist, 'right?.

1. Jena Malone = Barbara Gordon

Now, ever since Jena was announced to be in BVS many just went all out naming Batgirl, Oracle and HELL some even theorized she would play Robin, since the film was taking much inspiration from the Dark Knight Returns. Now, in the UC we got some scenes with her character, and it was a waste of one hell of an actress. She was listed as Janet Klyburn of S.T.A.R Labs. Who?.

But aside from that, it's a big, big mistake to have her hyped up to no end then reveal that her part was essentially a 5-minute or less appearance. Now, Jena is PERFECT for Batgirl; she looks the part, has acting chops and feels like Barbara Gordon straight from the comics. Snyder, you done f****ed it up. Sorry.
2. Minimized Making A Murderer: Batman Edition

Now, now i know i will get people correcting me saying 'oh, but Batman's arc is like' and the classic 'well, they were just too close to the explosions..' and etc.  Don't take me wrong. I actually find the arc of Batman becoming a hero and rising and escape the world of darkness he was in after all the pain and suffering. But goddamn, this Batman kills like Crazy. In UC, you get to see a guy hit with a crate in the head by Batman and thrown against the wall, leaving this long stain of blood in the wall.

But i guess he was too close too the crate (Yeah, right). But now that we're over the super, super brooding Batman, hopefully we see a brooding but sarcastic and fun Batman like in the cartoons and comics.

3.  The Right Motivations For Them Teaming Up

It's all been said and made fun of to death by now. The ending resolution and motivations were the most mocked and one of many controversial moments in this movie and the one i'm gonna adress is 'Martha'. Now, if you look deep into it all you can find is that the tragic flashback adds to Batman's motivations to help Superman, because the name reminded of him of his mother's death and he wants to help a little boy save his mother.

That's good and all but couldn't they gone with the reason that Batman is tormented by Robin's death and since he lost his 'son' to a psychopath like the Joker, he wants to help Supes save his mother from a psychopath. Namely, Lex Luthor. The movie should have gone with that; because in the theatrical cut and the ultimate one, we get to see a display of the Robin suit and that's it; that's the whole tragic backstory to what has made Batman lose his path so much. They could have detailed the story a lot more.

4. Less Elseworld Stuff & Choppy Editing
I'll admit it, the Knightmare Batman stuff was cool as heck, but pretty pointless. I mean, unless they are there to tease what happens in Justice League, which seems to be the case, i..it's confusing, but unless JL clears things up about this sequence, we can't really guess what happens before and after this story. Could easily be a Elseworld story, but who knows? the choppy editing affected this scene. We get to one dream sequence to another, like WHAT? But that's that.

But the Knightmare Batman suit was pretty cool and evil Superman wasn't something big and shocking. Atleast, to me. But the sequence does seem to tease an Injustice type story with Superman saying stuff like 'She was my world' and 'You took her from me. Which does seem like Lois has somehow died. But wouldn't it be cool if the game was taken as inspiration for JL? Well, unless there's something i need to know about this sequence, i think that's all.

5. True Versions Of Superman And His Rooster

I don't know what beef Zack Snyder has with supporting Superman characters. In BVS, Jimmy Olsen and Mercy Grave were either shot or blown up.

Jesus, Zack. Now, many people say 'oh, but the UC states that that's Jimmy Olsen' but here's the thing: the credits do credit him as Jimmy. Now, people justify this saying Olsen is not important. Are you f-ing kidding me? While not a big main character, he's important to the mythos and he's a fan-favorite for a reason. I don't think a Superman fan, like me, would ever say that, but it is what is, i guess.
Mercy dying is not as a big of a deal, but why? I mean, the UC clears some things about why that had to happen, but come on, now. With Olsen and Mercy dead, there's not much left for a Superman supporting character rooster.

Maybe i am being a bit defensive or fanboyish, but there's no reason to kill them, but they died because Zack considers it shock value. NO! Maybe one day, when MOS 2 finally gets made (without Snyder) it actually shows us the heroic Superman we all love and a  more accurate one, while i hope to see the true  versions of characters like Lex Luthor, Jimmy and Mercy being brought back into the fold of the DCEU. Hopefully the same doesn't happen with the world of Batman in the DCEU.

I think that 1 was more a problem on our part. There wasn't really a special announcement she was in it, it was just her captured on set in pictures. We blew it out of proportion

Same boat regarding the Knightmare scene. Didn't think it was needed, and I do think it confused the GA, but was really cool.

I also can't believe they cut out a lot of this stuff that would help with Clark/Superman's image to the audience as well. I love the movie but it felt like it should have come out down the line in the DCEU after a few more solos before JL.

Also, I would have loved to see that Batman raid on the Lex's building for the kryptonite. That video was so awesome by itself, imagine a whole scene like the warehouse?

Why didn't you include Lex?

So essentially your problems with the quality of the film is that it wasn't what you expected it to be?

Get over your entitled ass (to all fanboys).

This wasn't made to be in canon with the comics.

It was made to make money 1st, and tell a good story 2nd.

And it did that.

Kg beast should have been deathstroke. Would have been a great reveal especially if he fought batman in the warehouse scene.

"Please, I have to save my mother" would have worked slightly better haha

Ultimate cut made better sense of the movie. Still love it aside from lex jr.

Also it's clear lex had access and complete control of kryptonian tech. Would have been interested if he retrieved a chamber from the Phantom zone that happened to be doomsday and accidentally activated him and "woke the beast"

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I still think this film was not the film WB or DC needed. Coming off Man of Steel, WB wanted to build toward Justice League and a wider, shared universe. To do that in a way that continues the Man of Steel story and puts Batman and Superman together onscreen, the next film needed to do three things:

1) Continue Clark Kent's development, particular as a farm-raised journalist and a public hero in a large, forward-thinking city.

2) Introduce Bruce Wayne and Batman in a way that succinctly presents his history, his relationships, his motivations and his city.

3) Expand this DC universe in a way that contextualizes Superman and Batman, and that sets the stage for the introduction of the rest of DC's heroes.

Batman v Superman failed in all three tasks. Had that been their calculus, I suspect we would have had a very different film, one that better handled Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor. Instead, we got a film driven primarily by a skewed approach to the Justice League, one that required Superman to die and Bruce Wayne to become the visionary who conceives the Justice League. And in the process, it did none of the things really needed to get the DCEU to a proper Justice League.

Now, those three objectives could have been accomplished with a film that pits Batman and Superman against each other, features Lex Luthor, and even includes a brief role for Wonder Woman. But they couldn't be accomplished with a story that tries to mix The Death of Superman with Excalibur and The Dark Knight Returns.

In my opinion, the best film would have been one that revolves around Clark Kent pursuing Batman by uncovering his history in Gotham and intervening in his crimefighting, while also featuring a slightly "tweaked" Lex who manipulates their conflict for his own ends. That's it. No overt Justice League shoe-ins, no Death of Superman/court/framing plot, no Bruce/KGBeast/kryptonite-murder plot. Just a rather simple story that furthers Clark's development in Metropolis, recaps Bruce's development in Gotham, and uses Lex Luthor both to facilitate their conflict and to frame the rest of the DC slate.

I could go into more detail about the specifics of my own take, but those key ingredients form the bulk of what I think this film should have been at this point in the DC slate.
