These Goons In The First LUKE CAGE Clip Clearly Haven’t Heard About The Power Man's Abilities

"I'm about sick of always having to buy new clothes," says Mike Colter's Luke Cage while taking on a pack of thugs in the super cool first official clip from Marvel's upcoming Netflix series.

There’s just over a month before Luke Cage starts streaming on Netflix, so Marvel has just released the official clip from the series featuring Mike Colter’s Power Man in action. The short clip hilariously shows that there is at least one downside to having indestructible skin. Check it out below, and expect more Luke Cage reveals as we get closer to September 30th.

Marvel’s Luke Cage is about a hoodie-wearing, unbreakable ex-con fighting to clear his name and save his neighborhood. He wasn't looking for a fight, but the people need a hero. The upcoming Netflix series stars Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Frank Whaley, Erik LaRay Harvey, with Rosario Dawson, Frankie Faison, and Alfre Woodard.

Psyched for this one.

@LoudLon - As someone who is only familiar with the character via his appearance in other Netflix shows... what's the draw for this series? He's virtually indestructible and his motives according to the description of the series aren't personal.

I'm just currently not seeing much about this series past the basic idea of "He's indestructible and he's going to beat up a bunch of people". Is there anything else to it?

@Scarilian - Yeah, he's big and strong and bullet proof, but he's also an interesting character, with a sordid publication history. Inspired by the blaxploitation boom of the '70s, his earliest incarnation was as a badly stereotypical jive soul brother, a black man written by white writers who simply didn't have a clue. Nothing against them, they were good writers, they just didn't have all that deep a working knowledge of black culture, outside of thos blaxploitation flicks. Fortunately, more savvy writers eventually came along and developed him into a much less stereotypical and much more interesting character.

So what I'm psyched about is that it seems the show is wisely side-stepping his blaxploitation roots and are going by the modern version. Normally I don't like that kind of thing -- I prefer classic characters over "modernized" versions (not a fan of Marvel Ultimates or New 52, although New 52 Aquaman was really good there for a bit) but in the case of Luke Cage, he's simply a better character now than he was the first half of his published life.

@Scarilian - Pretty much like how Misty Knight says it in the trailer "You might be bullet-proof, but Harlem ain't." Being indestructible doesn't ensure the safety of the people around him, it just means you'll be left to pick up the pieces left over.

Love the Blaxploitation vibe. That music is very similar to what would play in the old 70s exploitation films.

Nice homage to Cage's roots

I like how the fighting isn't pretty. Cage is a FORCE and I love how those guys had to jump on top of him and he just tossed them like it was nothing.
