CAPTAIN AMERICA: TWS Takes Down THE LEGO MOVIE As Top U.S. Performer For 2014

This weekend the sometimes Avenger and more often noted Ninety-year old Virgin Steve Rogers finally overtook the heroes of the Lego Universe from the Lego Movie to move up one slot to tops in the United States market for 2014.

Both movies are inching towards final totals of 256-258 million.  It will be interesting to see if Captain America the Winter Soldier's US mark is strong enough to hold off Bay's Transformers and other contenders eager to take the US crown.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is just short of the 700 million mark internationally after this weekend.  It should get there Wednesday or Thursday.  Its pace is slowing down in its effort to catch Captain America for the International top Box Office whose total stands around 710 million but still has more time to sling up some more moola.  My personal guess is that Spidey will end  just shy of catching Rogers with 709 million to CAWS posting 712 million.

(Correction-Boxofficemojo hadn't fully updated international numbers at the time of the first posting)

X-Men Days of Future Past continues to put people in the seats domestically with about 14 million for the weekend.  Its total now stands at 189 million domestically.  It has cleared 420 Internationally for a worldwide total 609 million.  The international haul indicates a total very near to ASM2 and CAWS by the end of its run.

Captain America is one of the most thrilling ComicBook movies I've ever seen. With enough sophistication for adults and just enough eye candy for kids, The Winter Solider is just excellent.

I'm not American. How long do movies stay on theaters in the US?

Could last up to 8 weeks depending on how well the film is doing.

Cap 2 really got some sea legs. The 3rd Cap should be just south of 1 billion after A2. Of course someone (WB/DC or MS) will have to change their movie date.

Transformers is about to top everything as usual.

They tend to stay about eight weeks in the more pricey theaters. The whole run usually goes for four to six months. Some movies like Frozen or the Lego Movie continue long after they have been out on DVD in limited form or at the dollar movies.

@ManFromMars

We won't even watch them in our home theater unless we find one of good quality online. Then we hook our laptops up to our TVs and....oh, you're talking about walking into a theater and paying.

loved CAPTWS and it deserves every penny...but yeah no way is Transformers not a monster at the box office soon. .....good or bad, 'fact of life, those movies are money-printing machines.

captain america the winter soldier is the highest grossing film of the year thus far,if marvel studios can keep this up they could three-peat.

2012 the avengers
2013 iron man 3
2014 captain america the winter soldier(thus far)

transformers age of extinction will probably take the top spot this year.

CA: TWS is what you call a CBM that gives respect to all the major characters involved, even for a CBM that's based on a solo character. Much props.

I guess this is great news.

Captain America The Winter Soldier is in fact the greatest cbm of 2014 until GOTG comes out. I'm really hoping GOTG will be good.
