Entertainment weekly has reported the cast list for the Avatar the Last Airbender movie.

I already knew about the Avatar movie, knew that it was going to be directed by M.Night Shyamalan, had my reservations about it (the anime was great, why need a movie? especially so soon after the series ended, and directed by the same person who did "the Happening"?)

Looking around my favorite sites, found the reported casting. Aang will be played by an unseen karate star, Noah Ringer apparently from the Texas casting call.

Sokka may be played by Twilight's Jackson Rathborne.



Katara will be played by Deck the Halls' Nicola Peltz.


And the punchline? Jesse McCartney may be playing Zuko.


The movie is slated to be released in July 2010. Somehow I see Dragonball Evolution happening all over again.

why don't they use the kids who voiced them on the show. i watched this show from the beginning and they kids who voice the characters actually look like the kids in the show. not to mention they have the voices! i would be okay with the casting if it weren't for mcartney. i think star power will hurt this movie. they really better not blow this. the show was so good. the only way to make the movie successful would be to make it more intense and less child-like, this cast just screams kid friendly. i imagined the movie as being the badass counterpart to the show.

Ben Foster could pull it off, but he looks too old. He's one of the best actors out there though.

I'm more worried about the directing than the casting. When there's a movie where one person can't act, shame on them. But when no one can act, shame on M.Night Shamalan. Seriously, did anybody see The Happening? I just hope he'll learn from it in time not to screw this one up.

Toph should be Dekota Fanning,

Ben Foster should be Zuko

Jason Issac's should be Ozai

Emma Watson should be either Azul or Suki

Keisha Castle-Hughes should be Katara

My god. That was one of the best cartoons on Nickelodeon EVER! Airbender was great, as for this casting debacle...NO NO NO and NO! These are not good choices IMO. Keep it animated and make a movie, let Pixar get ahold of this one and go for the Gusto! THAT would make for a badass Avatar movie. Not this crap. This sounds like someone will be screaming rape before it's all said and done.

mmm Shyamalan has to have a part in every one of his movies (he thinks he's Hitchkock) what part will he play in this one?

I'm getting tired of Dakotta Fanning, her parents should let her rest until she's 18 or 21, and save her the grief of professional burnout. Doesn't that go against child labor laws? I mean she has been in a dozen movies already I think more than one per year.

I think Shayamalan is a bad director: so limited in his own boundaries and focusing mainly on his fantasies rather than a decent cinematogpraphy, satisfying characterization and audiance expectations. Though it seems like he is trying and bringing out new things with every new movie, analysed briefly, you will see that he is looping around the same crap. This brings out a "copy-paste" emotion flow in each and every film. Believe me, seeing "Pokemonization" of people isn't that enjoying every time. It is nothing but booooring!!! Sure this may be his very own "style" but this style -unfortunately- doesn't intersect with Avatar concept. I personally don't want to see another ruined cartoon.

I'd like to see Del Toro instead but I think, I firstly wanna see his "Hobbit" movie. I know he has it, Hellboy and Pan's Labyr are not bad movies at all, and I like the way he uses light and the angles he shoots places. He has the understanding of a comic-book, fantasy readers' perception and the way he pronounce it, is not disturbing nor raw. Additionally, his characters are more believable though they're more fantasy, and the storytelling doesn't make you bite your lips because of boredom. Waiting for Hobbit very badly btw.

I do think the director of this movie is a terrible terrible choice.

And I'd love to see Dev Patel (Skins, Slumdog Millionaire) as Sokka, I think he is perfect for the character and from what I have seen he can act, just as long as he has a good director to work with.

They won't. It's gonna follow Book 1 exactly. Then they're gonna make Book 2 and Book 3. Thats if M Night doesnt screws it up too bad.

GUNSMITH, Aang is supossed to be played by Noah Ringer. He's a karate kid (no pun intended) they found in Texas, a new comer if you will. I tried googling him up, but apparently he's not that good with karate or all his pics are locked in Shyamalan's dungeon.

Yah I know, Dekota should be. And as for Jesse, I saw him recently in some shows/movies, he's really not that bad an actor, actually he's pretty good. It surprised me. He'll be a good Zuko

An avatar movie, WOW sounds SICK don't like the Jesse part too much but, all in all I can't wait. Dekota should be Toph, and Azula should be in this movie to spice things up.
