Idris Elba has been promoting the upcoming sequel Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, and while doing so, he spoke encouraging words about Pacific Rim. Elba claims the monsters in the film are quite huge, and while a lot of CGI is being used, true to Guillermo del Toro's form, these giant robots and outer space creatures will be created with practical effects as well.
From Movieweb...
"Godzilla would throw out the wrong sort of image, I think. We are talking about some big MF-ers. There's a lot of actuality in this one because he's created huge sets. I mean, we've taken over four sets in Pinewood in Toronto and built a lot of the stuff that you might see. Yes, there is huge CGI I'm sure, but we built a lot of stuff too.
In other Pacific Rim news, Guillermo del Toro has hooked up with Striker Entertainment to create toys, games, apparel, and other merchandise tied into the film.
Russell Binder, president of Striker Entertainment, had this to say.
"The ingredients of Guillermo del Toro, Legendary Pictures, and gripping characters, creatures and an epic storyline make for a powerful consumer products program that will be well received and endure well beyond the theatrical window."
Pacific Rim comes to theaters May 10th, 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Clifton Collins Jr., Ron Perlman.
