I attended the Wolverine Fan Event in Times Square today, which included an appearance from the movie's star, Hugh Jackman. He spent a lot of time with the fans and did his best to make sure that everyone who wanted a picture or an autograph got one.

DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT THE IN-CREDITS SCENE SPOILED!!!

The Wolverine features an additional scene that starts rolling not too far into the credits. It picks up two years after Logan has left Japan, and he is currently about to walk through the security checkpoint at the airport. Logan looks up at the monitor above him to see a comercial celebrating Trask Industries and the current advancements in technology the company has made. He advises the airport authorities that he would like to volunteer to be patted down instead of going through the metal detector. Almost immediately after he says this, coins, belt buckles and other metallic objects begin to start floating and shaking on the conveyer belt. It's a tense moment as Logan quickly turns around with his claws outstretched, only to be stopped in mid-turn, unable to move.

The camera pans to Sir Ian McKellan, returning to the franchise as Magneto with his metal manipulating powers restored. Wolverine asks what he wants from him, and Magneto says that there is a grave danger coming that could lead to the extermination of their kind, and that he needs his help. Wolverine asks him why he should trust him. When he finishes the question, everyone around them suddenly freezes (much like the museum scene in X2). Magneto says that he knew Wolverine wouldn't trust him, which is why he didn't come alone. Wolverine looks around in disbelief when he realizes what has happened. The camera pans to a wheelchair moving through the crowded airport as all of the other patrons are still frozen in time.

We then see Sir Patrick Stewart returning to the franchise as Charles Xavier. Wolverine asks how this is even possible (referring to the fact that he watched Xavier seemingly die in X3: The Last Stand). Xavier responds by saying, "As I told you once before, you are not the only one with gifts."

Cut back to credits.

Suffice to say, it was an amazing scene and the two returning veterans received thunderous applause from the audience in the theater.

This might be the greatest post credits scene yet, or second behind Iron Man's post credit scene. All my opinion btw.

Incredible.

The only post-credits scene that could beat this would be to have Superman meet Batman in Man of Steel.

sounds cool. So basically Charles have the power to send his consciousness into someone else body. Which makes him practically immortal.

@jerryblake: I do think that answers the consciousness aspect, but I am curious to see how they explain the body being blown into smithereens piece. I wonder if the movie version of Phoenix's powers actually just trap them in different dimensions or something, and that opens the door for Cyclops' return?

btw, why was it Eric that approached Wolverine during the airport scene ? Couldn't it be Charles himself. Or perhaps Logan would stab the guy thinking that's Mystique ?

@CorEl23
they explained that in X3 post credit scene. Charles (in his last moment) send his soul to the body of the some dying man.
CorEl23
CorEl23 - 7/23/2013, 9:31 PM
@jerryblake: Yes, I am aware of that haha. I am saying that I wonder how they explain him having his body again. Because it is definitely his body in The Wolverine. Unless he is projecting this image of himself to people and he is actually in the body of the random guy.

oh yeah. right. How did you do that Charles ?
Or perhaps it's already a plothole ? :)

Maybe it was Apocalypse who approached Magneto in the early 70's and manipulate him into changing the future or creating the different (second) timeline. If the future started to change after X2, then Professor is still alive, and still have his body. The question is what about Cyclops and Jean Grey. I could see them returning at the end at the DOTFP.

jerryblake - 7/23/2013, 10:00 PM
so you could have two different timelines, one with Wolverine after X3 (with other "surviving" cast members") and other with Jean Grey, Cyclops, Professor X still standing and walking the earth (where most of the "surviving" cast members are actually dead)
So Professor starts to gather around mutants from both timelines to create a new one.

Sounds complicated ?

That's just how my mind works :)

well since Charles' mind is in another body he could just make people think he looks like his old self with his powers.

Doesn't make sense. If he his projecting his image, and he is in that other guys body still, how come he can't walk?

SPOILER FOR X3

When Xavier is showing the video of the patient in the care of Dr Moira Mctaggert to students at the begining of X3, it is Sir Patrick Stewart on the bed playing the patient.
This was documented after the release, unsure were though..possibly in one of the commentary's on the feature disk.
It was a quick shoot on the quiet, like the "Nick Fury" scene in Iron Man. Minimal crew etc covering the patient scene and Xavier speaking to Moira.

It was nice how Mag stopped him and he went for that quick strike.... And now its time to bond the adamantium back to his claws.... I don't want the claws to constantly be breaking now.

Twas indeed a nice surprise; one of the best parts of the movie though. Hugh Jackman is a great Wolverine, but I was really looking forward to seeing what Aronofsky would do with the material.

Adding to OldGreg's comment on Tusky's comment: That is correct, the brain dead dude is Prof. X's twin bro. As for why the new Prof. X is still confined to a wheel chair, well you answered that question yourself: His twin had been brain dead for all those years prior to Professor X 'jumping in' so, yeah.. there's no strength in his legs what-so-ever. Imagine lying on your back for 60+ odd years since birth!
