Hello everyone,

This is a very serious editorial today regarding one of my favorite actors and one of my favorite comic book characters.

Batman. He is the darkest thing you will ever encounter in the night, unless your in Africa. He is the most hardcore and ass kicking type hero who would do anything to take you down to the river. He wants justice and he is constantly hungry for it like a wild chomper. He never sleeps, he never shits, and he ain't got no shits to give for. He will stare you cold in the eyes until you bleed from your fiery heart. His cape is the very shadow of his figure. His voice will taint and haunt your nightmares till the day you go back in time to when you were born. The crusader. He is Batman.

Idris Elba. Brilliant black actor. Known for intelligent and powerful roles. His voice is like coffee and cream and as smooth as ice. Looks great in a suit and looks like a million bucks. A tall figure. Keen senses as seen in the show Luther, the brilliant detective. Has dared before to play a role that was meant for a white man and that is Hiemdall which many fans soon accepted for what it was. The black king of epic blockbuster films. He was in Pacific Rim. He is Idris Elba.

If the world was ready to have and accept a black Batman, he would come in the form of Idris Elba. He would become the real dark knight we need. I have laid out a series of consistent reasons for you to consider.
______________________________________________________________________

1. If Robert Downey Jr played a black guy in Tropic Thunder, then why can't Idris Elba play Batman?

- If people accepted the idea of Robert Downey Jr a white guy in black face and acting black then why would a concept as such a black Batman a role known in a standard white role, why would it be hard to understand. Batman isn't as such a one dimensional race geared character. Batman is the type of every man of sorts hero. A vigilante who wants justice against crime and rages war against crime, a character as such in that definition shouldn't be limited or looked on as one race particular. Comic books set those standards back in the old days because main heroes in a different race weren't looked upon as much as white heroes. This isn't the old days anymore this is the 21st century we are living in. This isn't difficult or hard to understand yet it still causes controversy for what reasons I have no idea. The same reasons why Batman was white was the same reason why Superman was white, it was just some old time standard they implanted on them. Superman an alien, should the color of his skin only be white just because someone made him that. Same goes for Batman.
______________________________________________________________________

2. Idris Elba knows his characters and his range of limits

- Idris Elba, from the fantastic hero we root for of the menacing man behind the scenes. He can come off as it all. He plays a fantastic detective similar to Batman in the show Luther. Tons of starting action roles where he was right up and center, sometimes coming out as certainly one of the best characters. Can play a hardened boss as such his role in Pacific Rim. To guarding the Bifrost Bridge as Heimdall in the movie Thor. To this year also playing the role of legendary icon Nelson Mandella in the film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Once he gets a role he knows it.

______________________________________________________________________

3. He knows how to wear a suit

- When it comes to the role of Bruce Wayne you got to look the part of a billionaire most importantly. You have to wear that suit like James Bond and give yourself a unique approach. Idris Elba has already got that down. To be a billionaire most importantly you have to be a smooth talker, Idris Elba already has that down.
______________________________________________________________________

4. The character has to come out like a skilled fighter and proficient in knowledge

Batman has gone through years of fighting and exceptional training in martial arts. He needs to be brute with force and can't exaggerate at the last minute. He needs to be knowledgeable too. Presenting Idris Elba who can excellently emote all of that in one.
______________________________________________________________________

Now is the time and now is the century to take all this into consideration. If we want a major change to happen for good in the world of comic book films this needs to happen. Thank you for reading. I'm Jacky, and I will also like to give credit to SPIDERMANFAN99 for this amazing idea that needs to come in realization.

Ok, Idris Elba really is a BAMF who could fit into a bunch of roles...
Major problem with him playing Batman is that Bruce really stays clean shaven. How does Mr. Elba look without any facial hair?

^Oh, damn! Someone do a good manip of that with the cowl on! Seriously, I could see him as Bond also. Once again, clean shaven though.

But in all seriousness I do like Idris Elba as an actor but why change a character's race when there are already a bunch of great characters of that race that deserve a movie?

Sorry, he's already Green Lantern, Flash, Magneto, The Tick, Wonder Woman, Wonder Man, Thanos, Mr. Fantastic, Lex Luthor, James Bond, and the lead in the Ricardo Montalban biopic.

This is awesome! There's no reason Batman can't be a black man. It wouldn't change the characterization or Batmans personality. Idris Elba is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Everything he does is golden.

I could see it, I wouldn't want Idris though, he seems too much of an out in the open BAMF than a in the shadows BAMF, I could see him as superman, maybe GL, Aquaman for sure, but not Bats

Idris Elba for John Stewart Green Lantern too!

i really wouldn't mind a black batman in theory. plenty of actors that could pull it off. but in practice i just couldn't believe it. i couldn't believe that thomas wayne could build a multi-billion dollar empire as a black man in america in the 1900's. there's just no way bruce wayne as we know him could realistically exist as an african-american man. i mean, doesn't the wayne family legacy go back all the way to the days of jonah hex? if you did some elseworlds thing like miles morales/ultimate spider-man then i'd give it a read or a watch or whatever.

maybe the next robin... or better yet have a black actor for batman beyond. i would by that.

I would love this but I would prefer him as John Stewart or Martian Manhunter. He's already in the MCU.

I rather see Idris Elba as John Stewart, Martian Manhunter, Steel, Mr.Terrific, Black Lightning, Darkseid, Batwing, or Cyborg.

I have said it once and I will say it again Kevin Porter (City Of Scars, Seeds Of Arkham) for Batman or GTFO. This guy sounds exactly like Kevin Conroy. Don't belive me? Watch City Of Scars, and Seeds Of Arkham and you'll see what I'm talking about this guy is perfect for Batman.

Never gonna happen... He'd be awesome, but wouldn't happen.

I'm an african american, but like odinsbeard said, it wouldn't be that believable. Honestly, if there was a 6ft black guy dressed as a bat with crazy tech and gadgets, black bruce wayne would be the first person they'd suspect. The cops would be at the mansion the morning after the first sighting... Lol... You'd lose the whole, "it could be anyone" factor. And if u cover his whole face with the mask, he'll look like Black Panther...

I like this pic and I would have no problem with it. Another thing that would be positive if they made this casting choice is he would attract black audiences. You can ask almost any black women who Idris Elba is and they'll melt.

LOL People are taking this seriously. But I guess he can make a pretty cool Batman, but he should be kept white. Seriously, there are so many black superheroes that didn't get a movie. Make those movies. Don't change a famous hero's race for the heck of it. JS or MM.

I love idris elba, but changing his race,it's kinda stupid.but I do agree if he is batwing.

Am I the only one that thinks the Tropic Thunder argument TOTALLY undermines the WHOLE article.

RDJ was playing a white actor who blacked up for the role. RDJ is a white guy playing a white guy playing a black guy!

This argument would only have any weight if Elba was going to 'white up' for Batman.

It's a shame because Elba could easily play Batman - he is not a character defined by race.

The Black Downey jr:"I know who i am,i'm a dude playing a dude, disguised as another dude". Cool, but unnecessary,'cause his back story will, without a doubt change, his origin will have to be set in Africa, and that is a problem in itself. The only really rich people in Africa during Thomas Wayne's life were royalty,so Bruce would no longer be a son of businessman, but prince and eventual king.A non-royal Bruce in Africa would be a farmer's son. So an American Bruce is fine for me.What is necessary is to elevate heroes that are non-white to the level of Bruce,Clark,Tony,Steve, etc, instead of keeping them secondary.

It would be cool, but the studios don't care about anything we say. There are also plenty of good white actors that can play him so no reason to waste a good black actor on him, we can use idris for a ton of other guys. It doesn't really matter who plays the characters these days. There are very few times where someone just makes a character, Robert Downey JR for instance was the one that made iron man popular. But chris evens, hemsworth, Scarlet, Cavill are all replaceable with someone who looks the part because they are simply playing the part (All are doing fine jobs at them don't get me wrong). Heath ledger's joker wasn't about him being perfect for the roll, he barely looks the original part due to his rounder face, it was the fact that he immersed himself in the role so much that he made himself the perfect joker. That's what we need in the next batman.

MoonDoggyX - 8/12/2013, 10:10 AM
Idris would blow he doors of of any Black superhero role. He's THAT good.

@Orphix - How funny would it be if Elba played a black Bruce wayne, but put on white make-up when dressed as Batman!
GinjaNinja
GinjaNinja - 8/12/2013, 10:30 AM
I wish they could have gotten him for Black Panther in the Marvel universe, he was "Wasted" by playing heimdall. He didn't really start to knock stuff out of the park until after thor.

what is it with people wanting to change the race of superheroes??....I dont get it. Im not racist....but man alive. All Heroes have their origins...in their origins they are somebody...and that somebody was born into a race. dont mess with the originality of things. FOr crying out loud!!!

I don't mind changing the race but it depends how. Having Idris Elba as Batman is a lesser change than Michael B Jordan as Human Torch but would still make fanboys even more pissed.

I say Human Torch would be bigger than Bats because of his sister.

Change the race to minor Characters like Heimdall, Nick Fury, but not Batman.

Nick Fury was black in the comics like Batman.

When Stan Lee did his own version of Batman, he's version of Batman as black.
