The Amazing Spiderman 2 Producers On Avengers Crossover: Not Until We're 'Out of Ideas'

The Amazing Spiderman 2 producers, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, have stated that a crossover is unlikely to happen any time soon, describing that the film would be only a 'stunt.'

Speaking recently to IGN on the press tour of Sony Pictures 'The Amazing Spiderman 2' producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach said that the studio has no current intentions to produce a crossover movie with Marvel Studios 'The Avengers'

Arad said of the potential crossover: 'I think I'm probably a little bit of the militant here,' adding 'I think it will take a moment in which we've run out of ideas.'

Arad believes there is lots to come yet from the Spiderman universe: 'There's so much to tell about Spiderman. there's so much to tell about the Sinister Six. The relationship between Spiderman and Venom will bring a whole other world in.'

Tolmach also discussed the possibility of the two studios combing: 'You know Avi always refers to that question as a stunt. If you were to do that, you know, Spider-man in the Avengers is a stunt.

And I get why everybody - you know, fans and audience members and movie goers - I understand it. When you think about the Sinister Six and you think about Venom and you think about Carnage and you think about Spider-man in whatever way you want in association with those movies, they feel like they're built for Spider-man. Like that's where his story needs to go and wants to go, and it has to be about more than a stunt.

Stunts can be cool but its also a business, and so the other side of the answer is they're owned by different companies. And there's a ton left in Sony's world - there's a lot of business left because there's a lot of story left.

So for them to want to take this character and put it with Marvel and Disney is a huge undertaking and probably, as Avis' saying, isn't necessary until you feel like, 'Wow, we're sort of out of ideas. what should we do? And we're far from out of ideas.'

The producers seem very firm that if this ever does occur, it's certainly a long way, away. Are you disappointed that Spiderman may not get to share the screen with the Likes of Iron Man and Thor, well then share your thoughts below.

That's funny. I thought they were out of ideas years ago.

So, they'll be crossing over in the next film then?

Pretty much concludes that it cannot happen now - because it would mean essentially having the studio say that they are out of ideas. In short terms they are saying '[frick] you' to what the fans want to see in terms of what they want for the film.

That's how it was spelt in the interview, I'd usually say Spiderman but have to go with the source

I liked TASM2 but I'd rather see Spidey next to the Avengers than a TASM3 or 4.

Wont happen and I'd rather it don't, I see this rebooted movie franchise as the ULTIMATE SPIDEY, no room in the AVENGERS Universe yo! ;P

I'll wait till MARVEL STUDIOS gets back the rights back, if never so be it. ;)

0mega Dat poster though...

And that's why we won't see it until Marvel has all its properties back under one roof. I also agree that Sony seems to be lacking a decent direction with their Spidey-verse. A Sinister Six movie? Really?? I would have other Spidey movies running concurrently leading up to a shattered dimensions type film. Fu¢k it, just give me a 2099 movie before I croak already.

I knew it wouldn't happen, but we can dream. X-Men are fine on their own at Fox, Fantastic Four can stay there too, but I really want Spidey back with Marvel. Too bad it won't happen any time soon...

Would rather see an Avengers/Fantastic Four cross over so that Doom can go toe to toe with the Avengers. I have zero desire to have Spider-Man join the Avengers. I would like to see a "Marvel Two-in-one" type deal maybe a Spider-Man/DareDevil team up or Punisher/Spider-Man vs KingPin

I kinda agree..would Marvel put Spidey in the franchise yet if they still had him or keep making his solo adventures?
I know he's been in an Avenger in the comics but it never seemed right.
Too much yet to get to on both franchises before they merge.

Or you could have the foresight to see how much people would love this idea, and how it would make zillions from fan boys if executed well. I swear that studios say the dumbest shiz some times.

I don't want to see Spider-Man become an Avenger or even team up with anyone, but I'd love it if they hinted at them sharing a universe. Just some little things, easter eggs, you know? Maybe a Daily Bugle featuring Spidey on the cover, lying around in Tony Stark's workshop or something... or maybe Spidey swinging past a poster advertising the Captain America museum exhibit from CA:TWS. I still feel they could inhabit the same reality, even if they don't fully cross over, and particularly after seeing TASM 2, which was even closer to the MCU tonally than the first TASM.

All i get from this article is how disconnected they truly are from fans. Yes it would be a massively complicated undertaking but it is not a stunt. We dont want to wait until they run out of ideas, which i hope they never will. Side bar, I feel like im gonna be sick of hearing the words Sinsiter Six well before this movie ever gets made

Also, seeing as Sony seem hellbent on making a full Spider-Man universe, specifically one centered around OsCorp, why not reimagine a few of the other Spider-Men?

- How about a tweaked version of Scarlet Spider? Instead of going the whole clone route, why not make the Scarlet Spider a cross species experiment from OsCorp, trying to recreate Spider-Man? Maybe have Kaine be the main character, have him search for Ben Reilly (his brother) who was previously experimented on. Something like Spider-Man meets Jason Bourne, you know?

- Figure out a new origin for Miles Morales rather than another spider bite, and maybe a new code-name. Wouldn't mind actually seeing him team up with Peter, rather than replace him.

- 2099 has also been suggested, and could work well if done right.

- Agent Venom would be a great route to take the Venom spin-off movie.

- Spider-Woman would be good too, if Sony has the rights.

- Black Cat could have her own movie, and would be a nice change from the spider-centric powers of the other characters.

- Silver Sable might also be interesting if done right? I'm sure there are more ideas out there...

Side Note: Who has the rights to Morbius the Vampire? Assuming Marvel have the rights to Blade and Ghost Rider, it'd be cool to see them create a team featuring those three, and maybe Doctor Strange. Kind of a supernatural Avengers. It's probably been done in the comics already, but they're not characters I've read before.

The only way I care to see Spider-Man in an Avengers movie is if his rights belong to Marvel and I don't see that happening.

@0megaDaGod
"Also, considering Avengers, by default of having Iron Man and all the other sub franchises, is probably the biggest brand at the moment. Not sure why a financially insecure company like Sony wouldn't be jumping at the chance to make this a reality"

I still maintain that Sony is NOT the holdout. OF COURSE they want to put Spider-Man in Avengers. Whatever Arad says, is most likely just to save face. Spider-Man in Avengers is kinda like free advertising for them. They have to do very little to get a chunk of serious profit.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios/Disney has to weigh any increase in Box Office (which will be somewhat minimal, since it's going to make a ton of money with or without Sony's character) against what they have to shell out to Sony for the usage. So, if Spider-Man isn't going to bring a TON of extra profit, it's just not worth it.

@126thst
"The only way I care to see Spider-Man in an Avengers movie is if his rights belong to Marvel and I don't see that happening."

Sony made comments a while ago, and maybe this has changed, but something about after this whole phase of Spider-Man being done, they intend to let the rights go back. This is part of why I feel Spider-Man coming back to Marvel will coincide with a reboot of the MCU.

So, it actually still jives with what they said here. Once they're out of ideas, they'll release the property and Marvel can basically have their sloppy seconds.
