It has been the subject of speculation and rumors for some time now, but I think everyone took it with a grain of salt, until now. It's been officially announced in Variety that Bryan Singer will be using the late Marlon Brando as Superman's father Jor-El in Superman Returns.

Brando will once again play Jor-El, thanks to vintage footage shot by Richard Donner for the 1978 movie. Donner was removed as director from the sequel and there is supossely a lot of unused footage of Brando that never made it in the film. Singer said he has purchased all of that footage and plans to use it somehow in the new Superman Returns picture.

To what extent the footage will be used still remains a mystery.
