Hugo Weaving (best known as Agent Smith in The Matrix and Elrond in The Lord of the Rings) is talking about replacing James Purefoy in the lead role in V for Vendetta, the Wachowski Brothers’ adaptation of the Alan Moore maxi-series.
Purefoy "just wasn't working out with him and the directors," Weaving told The Herald Sun. "It was a kind of mutual thing, I think. In a way it was quite lucky for them that Eucalyptus had fallen through because I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise."
Eucalyptus was another movie project Weaving was contracted for but the film project fell apart, seemingly because of Hollywood bad boy Russell Crowe.
