Variety reports that Seed Productions, the newly named producing venture headed by Hugh Jackman and John Palermo has struck a new deal with 20th Century Fox. Seed Productions will be steering a David Benioff-scripted spinoff film based on the popular X-Men character of Wolverine.
Jackman and Palermo will produce Wolverine with Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel's Avi Arad.
Although Jackman hasn't produced a film yet, he did experience some first-hand crisis management when helmer Matthew Vaughn departed from X3 and Brett Ratner was assigned to replace him."It got to be a roller-coaster ride there, but I wasn't worried because the script is so strong," Jackman said."
Jackman also added about Wolverine, "That project is a good start for me as producer, because I have intimate knowledge of the character."
Palermo, whom is also an executive producer on the upcoming X3 film, said Benioff will turn in his first draft shortly.
Meanhilwe, ComingSoon.net caught up with "The Longest Yard" screenwriter Sheldon Turner, who also revealed the current status of his script for Magneto.
"Right now I'm writing 'Magneto', which is an off shoot of the X-Men franchise for Fox. Which is sort of following the path of a villain, the character played by Ian McKellen when he was a young man. It's a prequel of sorts. I'm finishing that up.
