Scheduled to debut on Kids’ WB on The CW March 1, 2008, The Spectacular Spider-Man Animated Series, produced by Culver Entertainment, promises to be one of the most innovative and exciting comic book-themed animated series in several years. The series features a younger Peter Parker than the character reflected in the Marvel comic books currently on the stands.

The series takes place during 16-year-old Parker’s junior year of high school. After spending the summer before honing his skills as Spider-Man, Parker will have to face the challenges of concealing his secret identity while facing off against powerful super-villains like Green Goblin and Venom. Many comic book aficionados will exclaim, “Say what?!? Venom attacking Parker in high school? That’s not how it went down!” And, they would be right.

Series creators realized that, in order to allow the greatest number of story possibilities—and, no doubt, the maximum number of toy and other merchandising possibilities—Parker’s journey from novice to accomplished super-hero must be condensed. Series writer Greg Weisman has stated that Spider-Man’s continuity will not mirror the comic book series. Instead, comic book story arcs and ideas will be presented in an abbreviated format, so that important characters from Spider-Man’s history—Gwen Stacy, Flash Thompson and Harry Osborn, for example—can be included alongside contemporary characters.

Confirmed cast members include:
Peter Parker/Spider-Man - Josh Keaton
Aunt May - Deborah Strang
Mary Jane Watson - Vanessa Marshall
Gwen Stacy - Lacey Chabert
Harry Osborn - James Arnold Taylor
Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard - Dee Bradley Baker
Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus - Peter MacNicol
Max Dillon/Electro - Crispin Freeman
Eddie Brock/Venom - Ben Diskin
Liz Allan - Alanna Ubach
Flash Thompson - Joshua LeBar
Martha Connors - Kath Soucie
Kenny "King" Kong - Andrew Kishino
