At the WonderCon in San Francisco Hall A was packed when it came time for theIRON MAN presentation. Jon Favreau came to the stage and dived in to start answering questions.
First up he was asked about using Ozzy’s song Iron Man in the trailer. Jon said he talked with Sharon Osbourne and got her blessing.
Favreau admitted to having a lot of fun and that with the cast it was a fight to get Robert Downey Jr, but the initial fan reaction got Paramount and Marvel on board.
Someone asked about the jet boots they’ve seen and Favreau mentioned the super bowl commercial, then he offered up an exclusive clip that offered a bit more of the Mark 2 suit. The scene showed Tony Stark testing out the jet boots in his garage trying to fly. At first he goes crashing into the wall and then gets it right claiming; “Yeah, I can fly.” The next bit of the scene had Tony Stark inside the Mark 2 suit configuring his flight plans and taking off through the night.
Favreau said he was told; “Don’t show too much, they’ll get bored.” But the crowd was cheering and clamoring for more. The clip shown was meant to give us all a good taste of the personality of the film, which I say it did quite well.
The next bit of news was that Favreau is heading up to Skywalker Ranch for the next couple of weeks for more post-production work. He also admitted that he hopes to continue to branch out to make Avengers, if Iron Man makes a lot of money he just might get the chance to direct.
When the question came about the rumors of a Hulk/Iron Man cross over; Favreau admits; “I read those rumors, it’s true there are rumors on the Internet. I don’t want to give secrets away, many rumors are true and many rumors are not. People are figuring out the whole movie and I want to keep mystery.”
Before he wrapped things up Favreau apologized for the 90 second preview not appearing with LOST this past week and assured it will be on this week. Instead he offered up the 2 and half-minute trailer that will be premiering with 10,000 B.C. and it truly was amazing. There was nothing but cheers and applause as Favreau left the stage.
