COMICS: Marvel Reveal Details And Artwork For New UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL Ongoing Series

Following the news that Marvel are apparently planning on cancelling the Fantastic Four's series in a bid to hurt the movie's chances of success comes the reveal that they will release a new Squirrel Girl series in January. The character has something of a fan following, but enough to hold her own in a monthly comic book? We'll see. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl will see the young hero head off to college while tackling "cosmic" level threats (she does after all hold victories over Thanos and Doctor Doom). The character now joins a number of other female characters with their own series, including Captain Marvel, Storm and, uh, Thor. What do you guys think of this news?

And I really thought South Park was right when they told Towelie he was the worst character ever. Apparently, they were wrong.

@PAF

You're right, by the way. The FF cancellation has nothing to do with the movie. If it did, Feige would probably have his name removed from the executive producer credit he has on Trank's film. And if Disney had something to do with it...what would happen to Trank's Star Wars spin-off? Think he'd still do it if Disney was trying to [frick] with his movie?

Kids are getting stupid these days. The fact that they actually think that Marvel is concerning themselves with the FF reboot...I dunno. I weep for society.

Anyone ever consider the idea that Marvel stopped making the new FF series because it....sucked?

No wonder.

To quote Tony Stark "Finally, someone who speaks English."
Besides it would literally have no effect on the film.

Nice to see Marvel deliver on a fan fav. But still childish move on MARVEL for the whole FF thing :/

I was cheering for Baltimore all along. If the Jays can't win the World Series, it might as well stay in the American League East.

Im not sure why Marvel is cancelling the book. But if they are doing it to hurt the movie, then it makes total sense. Its not childish or immature, its business. Disney/Marvel want the rights back and the only way they will ever do that is if the movie fails. Failure means Fox would be more willing to sell the rights back to Disney to cover the loss

1. Not a fan of the new costume, 2. Why is Red Skull a pirate?

Marvel should cancel all the X-books too, easily drive down the value of the properties Fox still has, starve the beast.

Why do these covers make it look like Squirrel Girl has put on weight?

Anyway, SG getting her own series? It's about damn time.

Don't diss Squirrel Girl or she'll summon a horde of angry squirrels and it won't be pretty.

On account that it makes no sense and it's unnecessary speculation.

Yeah, I'm not feeling the new costume. She especially needs to take the squirrel-ear headband off. That is just tacky.

But you guys do realize Marvel has been cutting off any sort of FF products right? Action figures, t-shirts, trading cards….I worked on card set recently and was not allowed to draw any FF or FF related character. Over 200 characters or so I was not allowed to draw. Canceling the series seems like the next step, what the motive is is beyond me but obviously something is up.
