Kevin Smith in the past wrote a screenplay for The Six Million Dollar Man, and an executive and the studio quipped that the screenplay read more like a comic then a movie. Instead of letting that bother him, Kevin thought of it has a compliment and a suggestion and has now turned his childhood hero into a comic book hero.

By the way anyone not familiar with The Six Million Dollar Man, it was a great show in the mid seventies about an ex-astronaut, Steve Austin (Lee Majors) who is nearly killed in action and is rebuilt with advanced technology. That tech, which is called bionics, is so highly advanced that he has increased powers. A bionic left eye that can zoom in like a camera and snap photos, and is capable of night vision. He has bionic legs which gives him the ability to run incredibly fast. And last but not least, a bionic right arm that can crush about anything it likes.

"bionic right arm that can crush about anything it likes. "

Let´s not push it, it can take out the engines out of a car, or throw a bear on the other side of the river, but not too much beyond that.

"looks like cable wannabe"

I think the Six Million Million Dollar Man was around long before Cable. And due to inflation he is now worth 1.2 Billion dollars...he also kicked Bigfoot's a$$.

The Six Million Dollar Man was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I'm interested in this new comic, but I don't like this 'cyborg arm' on Austin. It makes him look like any of a hundred other characters. There are better ways to update Austin's bionic capabilities without going for obvious visual cues.

It's just too bad that with 500 channels, nobody shows great old shows like Six Million Dollar Man- at least that I know of. I haven't seen it in many years and can't afford that huge DVD collection of all the episodes and movies.

Newbus: I was thinking the same thing. Six million now would have left Austin looking like Seamus from Family Guy, or gotten him bionics as assembled by Homer Simpson.

I really liked that no dialouge was in the pages except for "It's Rudy." Rudy being the doctor who invented bionics. I'm really old.

It's not science fiction anymore:

OOPS "It's ready." BUT Rudy was still the doctor who invented bionics dammit.

"The Six Million Dollar Man" is a good name, so why change it?

By the way, I am a fan of the show even though its entire run came before I was born.

@tea - I use to do the slow motion run AND jump (it was actually kind of difficult to do a slow motion jump) :)

@Nomis - I had the 12 incher also (insert joke here). It even had the telescopic eye that you could look through on the back of the head if I remember correctly.

Six Million. lol Making cyborgs is cheaper than making blockbuster films. How many Bionic Men could you make with Transformers DOTM profits?

In the 70's, Charlton Comics had the license to do comics of the TV show. The four color had art by Joe Staton and I have never been a fan of his-too cartoony for my tastes. However I had a bought a large B&W mag from Charlton that had a cover by Neal Adams and inside art by Continuity Associates, the company that Adams started with other artists like Dick Giordano and fostered talent like Terry Austin. The art was great in this and Steve Austin actually looked like Lee Majors from the show. Good stuff!
