BLADE RUNNER Sequel Gets An Early 2018 Release Date

It's been thirty-four years since director Ridley Scott brought us the original Blade Runner, and in a few short months, the sequel to the sci-fi classic will kick off production with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in tow.

Nearly thirty-five years after the Ridley Scott-directed original hit theaters, Blade Runner is finally getting a sequel with Harrison Ford (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) all set to return as Rick Deckard. Yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures officially placed Blade Runner 2 on their upcoming release schedule, assigning the film a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend release date - January 12, 2018.

Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) is currently attached to direct with a script from Michael Green (Wolverine 3) & Hampton Fancher (Blade Runner). Academy Award-nominee Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys) has been confirmed to star in the lead role alongside Ford and even though he's not directing, Ridley Scott (The Martian) will still serve as an executive producer on the project.

The film is expected to kick off production this July.

It's really only the director that has me interested. No idea how they're gonna pull it off though.

My favorite all time movie is Blade Runner. I made my mom buy me the movie adaptation comic in an A & P grocery store when I was 12 yrs old (1982). I listen to the soundtrack when I cant sleep. I don't know, but I will prob not watch this sequel.

I love Ridley Scott. Wish him well. You should have done this Sir, or prevented it from being done.

This a'int Rocky or Star Wars (both of which I adore). This should be left alone.

Dekard WAS a replicant. We see that in the retinas of his eyes in the second apartment scene with Rachel. In the book he was obsessed with wanting to own a Real animal. Something real. Anything real.

My best to all. :)

@cwb77 - Maybe they will address whether or not he was a replicant in the sequel. They have the director and the actors to pull this off, as long as they have the right story too this could be great!

Can't wait for this.

Denis Villeneuve also has another sci-fi movie out this year with Amy Adams called "Story of Your Life".

On one hand, this should be great, on the other, this is probably going to put it in competition with Star Wars Episode 8.

my personal list of best movies...

#1 The Godfather
#2 Rocky
#3 Blade Runner
#4 Anything with Clint Eastwood! :)
#5 Shawshank. (read Different Seasons by Steve King) Trust me.
#6 "You're gonna need a bigger boat"
#7 1977. You all know.
#8 Batman Begins (personal preference. I love that movie.)
#9 King Kong 1933 (Classic, don't you remember "creature
feature" on channel 50 @ 3:30 sat. afternoons?) :)
#10 Your favorite here.(but my list is pretty good). I think) :)

Also, I'm not contradictory, I said Blade Runner was my favorite movie, not the best movie. Put "Citizen Kane" on that list above pretty much all of them. To me "Rosebud" was an ideal. A place you could retreat to. The past was great, maybe the future could be too...but it can never again be what it was.
