First Look At Idris Elba As The Gunslinger On The Set Of THE DARK TOWER

There's been talk of adapting Stephen King's 3000+ page epic The Dark Tower for years now, but it's finally happening with Nikolaj Arcel at the helm and Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey set to star. How exactly it will go about adapting the series remains to be seen, and it's currently thought that it will borrow elements not just from The Gunslinger (the first novel), but later instalments as well.

Now, thanks to Mail Online, we have the first set photos from this highly anticipated 2017 release featuring the Thor and Luther star fully suited up and ready for action as Roland Deschain.

Despite the fact that the character was white in the books (something which actually plays a fairly significant role in the second novel when we meet Detta Walker), there's been relatively little backlash to Elba's casting, a testament to what an incredible talent the British actor is. Needless to say, he looks every bit the part, and it now hopefully won't be long until we see the first official images.

@Cooler - if you like reading books you should read them. But don't read them to prep for the movie. I throroughly enjoyed the books, some of my favorite but I doubt the movie will be able to do much justice

@Cooler - You could perhaps cheat? I listened to all them as audio books which were really good. Also Stephen King talks about writing and characters on some of them. IMO it is defiantly a worthwhile trip. The fact it was like 30 years in the making by a man who seems to write a book a day. It has cool history as well if you are into that sort of thing.

@CloydeSyfox -
Frank Muller and George Guidall did an AWESOME job voicing those books. I listened to all but one of them whilst commuting (read Song of Susannah).
Did you read some of the crossover books as well ('Salem's Lot, Black House, The Stand)? Great ride for King fan's.
Love Elba. But how they deal with the racism with regards to Odetta Holmes is beyond me.
