Earlier today, Matthew McConaughey took to Twitter to reveal a new teaser poster of sorts for The Dark Tower. This one teases the presence of The Crimson King, a character we only just recently learned is going to be included in this adaptation of/sequel to the series of novels by Stephen King.

Who or what is The Crimson King? That's something fans of The Dark Tower books spent years wondering, only for the eventual reveal to come as a pretty major disappointment. There, his main goal was to bring an end to all reality so he can rule over the darkness which will be unleashed by the destruction of The Dark Tower. The movie will take things in a similar direction, as he's been described as, "an insane, god-like entity who will be resurrected to rule the chaos of these collapsed worlds" should the Man in Black's mission to use Jake Chambers to break the beams of reality succeed.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, The Dark Tower is currently set to be released on February 17th, next year.

@SmellofDuty - I don't think McConaughey will top his performance as Rust ever.

@Clark4President - I doubt it. Although, if he did, imagine how incredible that would be. He came close in Dallas Buyer's Club.

I'm going to try and reread the books before the movie comes out. Wish me luck.

Mixed emotions on this. There are things from the books that I would like to see, but this is a continuation of the story hinted at the end of The Dark Tower (the last book for the uninitiated). Psyched overall.

This is gonna be the pride of Comic con. I'm saying this panel will be the best one there.
