Ridley Scott Reveals Major ALIEN: PARADISE LOST Details On 'Ripley', 'Xenomorphs', And More

Sir Ridley Scott has dropped some huge new details on Alien: Paradise Lost, confirming the return of the Xenomorphs, ties to Ripley, whether we'll be seeing Michael Fassbender as a disembodied head for the entire movie, and much more! Hit the jump to check it out...

Yesterday, Sir Ridley Scott revealed that his Prometheus sequel is going to be titled Alien: Paradise Lost, and he's now shed even more light on what we should expect from the movie. Asked to go into further detail by Empire Online about the reason for the name change, The Martian helmer explained: "Years ago, I kept mulling over what Alien 2 could be. I was fiddling around with some ideas. I was always fascinated with why this thing [the xenomorph] would be made, by whom, and for what purpose? The planet it was on – and I was looking at the dark side of the moon – would be called Paradise. Paradise is a very ominous word..." It's clear then that this movie is going to have some very close ties to Alien, something which Prometheus was sorely lacking. However, the name change hasn't caused too many changes. "In a way it is Prometheus 2. It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that [Alien: Paradise Lost]. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien... I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what."

The fact that it will feature ties to Ripley is obviously very exciting news for Alien fans, but those same fans have no doubt spent the past 24 hours fretting about Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5. After all, surely they're not going to release that movie just a couple of years after a prequel to the first instalment in the franchise? Won't that just confuse moviegoers? Whatever the answer may be, it's definitely still happening! "I’m producing it," Scott confirmed. "The design is for it to go out next, after this. This will go out first. It’s more associated with Ripley, it’s a completely different angle, it’s more of a sequel. I’m coming in from the back end." Oh, and here's where things get really exciting; the filmmaker has changed his stance on bringing back the Xenomorph! "I think I have to go again. We will see who made it, and why. That’s what’s interesting." Finally, he addressed the possibility that we'll be spending the entirety of Alien: Paradise Lost seeing Michael Fassbender play little more than a disembodied head! "It’s going to be better than that," he laughed. "It’s a very nice big idea I’ve got. It’s really great. You’re going to have to wait..." What do you think?

I'll be the first to admit, I'm looking forward to this.

My first time watching Prometheus, I left with a huge "what the phuk" planted in my mind. But after multiple viewings, and listening to commentary and having the mythos further explained, it has become one of my favorite science fiction films. What seemed at first to be a horribly written film is actually very well done.

I'm 110% in on a sequel to this. Especially with the direction it sounds like it's being taken.

As bad as the Alien movies can be sometimes, I'll keep going to them just because I love this franchise so much. I'm excited to see an Alien movie with Prometheus-level effects.

Sounds cool! i loved the three first Alien movies and Prometheus. Can't wait to see who made the original aliens.

Ridley Scott keeps flip-flopping about these things.

And I don't necessarily want an Alien origin story. I just want a great sci-fi horror film, like the first movie.

Depending on how good The Martian is, I may become very excited for this one.

Are we going to see 'Hologram David'? His interface could be hooked into a wearable device Shaw has. Or something like that?

This shit sounds so messy to me.
Prometheus was garbage, and now he wants to add Blade Runner to all of this nonsense.

Ridley, just stop.

So another Aliens and then another Prometheus? and Prometheus didn't show how the xenomorphs came about? I thought that was the end of Prometheus... I guess it still has to evolve more to become the xenomorph in Alien.

I'm really starting to get excited for this sequel! Also glad to hear Blomkamp's Alien is still happening!

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon

I feel the same way.

Don't really need a origin story or even any connection to the previous films. I lose interest the more he talks about this movie. I'll see it regardless because I'm a fanboy for this franchise and Prometheus wasn't too bad.

It's dissapointing Charlize Theron can't be in the sequel. It would have been nice to see what her character would be doing next. I like how the sequel is sounding and it will be interesting to see what new stuff Ridley brings to the universe.

I actually hope that Hentai-Xeno pops up again and does something later on. Seemed kinda pointless showing it at the end, other than having some fan service.

Maybe this film will have Shaw go to the Engineers' planet and end up sending a distress signal- the same one picked up by the Nostromo in Alien......

They took Fassbender's body with the head, so obviously they are going to reintegrate the head and body.

@Jollem,

"Messy" because he's ruining what made the first two Aliens movies special.
I don't give a f.uck about their origins or their parents. Not every goddam thing needs to be explained or connected. And now he wants to see how he can shoehorn Blade Runner (a movie that DOES NOT need a SEQUEL)into this?
F.uck off, man.

"Garbage" because that was what Prometheus was: garbage.

Ridley Scott needs to shut up about all this and try to ride The Martian wave. Don't start making people remember your recent movies that got cold receptions.

The xenomorph in Alien is what you get when it comes out of a human.
The xenomorph in Prometheus is what you get when it comes out of an engineer.
Remember that different DNA reacts differently with the xenomorph embryo.

@Jollem,

"Prometheus was fantastic."
