Robocop Delayed

Looks like Darren Aronofsky's much anticipated Robocop reboot might have slowed down due to the fact that Aronofsky wants to shoot his supernatural horror epic Black Swan next.

They have Portman locked into the lead of Black Swan, with only a few small budget issues, it looks like Black Swan is next on the directors list and could end up possibly shooting the film later this year, which would put Robocop's reboot up on the back burner and officially into development hell.

MGM is quietly stating that the film could still hit theaters in 2011, they are also looking for another director to fill the void and get Robocop blasting bad guys again.

I think this is good new...I might be in the minority, but I actually have no desire to see this series relaunched. Just let it be.

I agree Bamf...let sleeping dogs lie. There's no need to reboot something that already crashed and burned....it will just happen again.

Does it have to be rebooted? Why can't they carry on the story with him already as Robocop? Peter Weller's Robocop was awesome and still enjoyable to watch! The third one look like a Sci Fi Channel Original movie. We'll just pretend it didn't happen, much like Terminator 3.

I pretty much liked the entire sequence of the getway van and the flying Bobby.

I like the part when Bobby burnt the money and Clarence goes ballistic on him. Then Emil calls his attention to the cops behind the van. Clarence then tells Emil to slow down. Emil replies, "Are you nuts?!" With Clarence's frustrated response, "Just shut the [frick] up and do what the [frick] I say!!! Just do it!" followed with a swift kick to Emil's shoulder...

LOL, love it!

dam stupid hollywood. do they not have imagination or ideas left in them?! enough with these reboots. nowadays its a reboot, a comic book movie or a movie with seth rogen in it. i can only put up with comic book movies. no robocop!
RolandOfGilead
RolandOfGilead - 7/15/2009, 9:41 AM
Well said Droopy...totally agree. Can't these directors and writers come up with their own original ideas or try making a comic or story that hasn't been on the big screen before?

i think a lot of these dudes pitching these movies are dudes like us. they are fans and since now they are in Hollywood production meetings, why not pitch to do a remake of your favorite 80's movie. how do you think all these other ideas are getting pitched and approved? its not like they just barely discovered comic books. these dudes are just like us.

so...

If you had a chance to pitch a remake of a personal fav 80's movie...which one would it be?
TurdFergunson
TurdFergunson - 7/15/2009, 9:52 AM
I would say Commando!!

but replace all those latin dudes Arnold shoots up with updated Terrorists types. and of course make it more gore, more blood, and i think Arnold's body count was 91 just on that island alone...so the remake would have to top that!
ASSASSIN666
ASSASSIN666 - 7/15/2009, 9:57 AM
It's real nice to know that there are very talented writers out there starving because f**king hollywood is only in the remake industry. I mean really what the F**k ? can't I go one f**king week without hearing that another movie is being rebooted, or remade? Christ, why don't they just redo star wars, or the godfather next so I can really go over the edge. Robocop? f**k man, it wasn't good then so why microwave the f**king movie and put it out again. Damn you supermike this was probably your doing-asshole!!!!
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/15/2009, 9:58 AM
@ rolandofgilead

that's pretty funny, if movie developers followed that way of thinking we never would have gotten a batman reboot, which means no TDK. batman has been done before right? so why do we need a new version of it?? or the incredible hulk for that matter.
TucsonRican
TucsonRican - 7/15/2009, 10:00 AM
Don't think its the writers and directors that are responsible. The studio's seem to be scared on an original project. Seemed to be playing the safe game, and using properties that have a built-in fanbase.

Hence, the plethora of films that are based on comics.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/15/2009, 10:02 AM
i just don't get why people complain about reboots. there are plenty of original movies that come out every year, and jsut so you know, anything based off of a comic book, which everyone here claims to love, is not original. but we loves us some comic book movies don't we??

Let me say first that the first string of batman movies sucked. Batman was begging to be remade because it was done right with begins. I wish begins would have came out in the 80's and spared us that pain of those other batman films. You don't take a time honored hero like that and ruin it with four, FOUR movies. Hulk wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't for kids or people with short attention spans. Other then the fact that he was just a little too big in the movie, it still was superior to a lot of other nonsense out there. Does that answer your question?

@ Assassin

they did suck, except for the first, and arguably the second. (i didn't like the 2nd personally but some poeple do) with robocop its the same thing, most like the first one, the 2nd is mixed as far as people liking it, and the 3rd was horrible. yet everyone still welcomed a batman reboot. why should this be any different??
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/15/2009, 10:26 AM
@assassin

also, wishing that these new batman movies were made in the 80's does not change the fact that the old ones were done and made, then rebooted. you said earlier you didn't like the old robocop movies. you also said the old batman movies sucked. they rebooted batman, and you liked it. why would you think there's no possible way you could like a reboot of robocop?
