BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Has Finally Finished Its Domestic Run

Disney and Lucafilm's Star Wars: The Force Awakens has finally left its last North American theater after a six month run that leaves the film's domestic box office haul just shy of $1 billion.

After being released in December, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally out of all North American theaters, finishing its domestic run at $936.6 million.  While some superhero blockbuster films hope for a worldwide gross of $1 billion, Episode VII nearly accomplished that feat with just its home court numbers.  That's especially impressive give the current state of box office revenue splits, which typically fall in the 30% domestic/70% international range.  From an estimated production budget of $245 million, the film has grossed $2.068 billion worldwide for a 45% domestic/55% international split.

Given how close the film is to crossing the $1 billion dollar mark domestically, should Disney re-release the film in theaters? Perhaps they should do so a few weeks before the release of Episode VIII?

This movie was really good, but Revenge of the Sith is still my favourite Star Wars film. (Yeah, I know it's an unpopular opinion but it's the movie that I have the most nostalgic ties with in the franchise)

@SpiderSupes94 - Revenge of the Sith was a great movie... Regardless of how people feel about CGI, George Lucas, the other prequels and the original trilogy, Revenge of the Sith was probably one of the most action packed Stars Wars / Sci Fi movies ever. Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan was great.
I still love the original Trilogy more than the prequels but ROTS was the best of the prequels and I liked it better than the Force Awakens.

Damn, only 65 million from that special 1 billion domestic. I wonder if Disney will re-release the Episode VII in the future to get it there.

Considering the news regarding Rogue One, better re-release this one and change the lightsaber color, god knows people will flock to watch it again.
