HAIL, CAESAR! Actor Alden Ehrenreich Emerges As Front-Runner For Young HAN SOLO Role

The 26 year-old actor was in the running to play Han Solo along with the likes of Jack Reynor and Taron Egerton, but now it seems the Hail, Caesar! breakout star has jumped to the top of the line...

It seems the search for a young Han Solo may be over, as Deadline reports that Alden Ehrenreich has emerged as front-runner for the role after an "impressive round" of screen tests.

Of course that doesn't mean anything is set in stone, and the part could well go to someone else.

The Han Solo origin film will focus on the early life of the iconic space smuggler before the events of A New Hope, and will also feature an appearance from everyone's favorite walking carpet, Chewbacca.

The LEGO Movie duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will helm the Star Wars spinnoff, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.

I guess this means Anthony Ingruber isn't getting the job.

I'm sure Lord and Miller will make this work, but man I wish they'd work on another story. Why not another bounty with an untold story, Disney did flush out the EU and now they have so much space to do whatever they want. And yet we're only getting stories that focus on already established characters and storylines?!

I just have no interest in this project whatsoever. This will have to be a 500 ft homerun for me to care.

Why do people want an Obiwan movie? there is literally no more story to tell with him. He spent 20 years being a hermet on a desert planet. The end.

So excited for a Han Solo movie. He looks great. I actually didn't see Hail Caeser but I heard good things about him from some who did.

@DallasAvenger - I just saw Hail, Caeser! last Sunday. It was great if you're a fan of subtlety and 50's movies.

I would prefer Taron Egerton, I loved him in Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle.

@Earth2SpecialKa - Ehrenreich has also been up for leading roles before, such as Spider-Man in the 2012 reboot.

Glad to see he is in the running to play Solo.

He is a very good actor, but I also question the sanity of this project.
