New Details On The Plot, Aliens, & Vehicles Of STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE

Thanks to the info director Gareth Edwards brought to Celebration Anaheim this year, we already know a small bit about what will be the first of the Star Wars Anthology movies. Now JoBlo has revealed a few more interesting tidbits, so if you don't mind minor SPOILERS, click on...

So we know Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will helm Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, we know it'll focus on a rogue band of resistance fighters uniting to steal the plans for the original Death Star, and we know that the cast includes (so far) Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Sam Clafin, and Riz Ahmed. Edwards has also said to expect a much darker journey to the galaxy far, far away; and suggested that this won't be the usual ultimate good VS. ultimate evil type of story.

JoBlo has now posted a few follow-up details, and though some only confirm or elaborate on what we've heard previously, there are also a few intriguing new nuggets.

Definitely set during the "Dark Time" of the Empire (between Episodes III and IV)

Being coined as "darker and grittier" than any other Star Wars film to date

The film seems to be aiming to be much like an old school war film; Think Hamburger Hill meets Star Wars

All the Jedi are said to be in hiding; expect this story to leave them in the background

Stormtroopers have same armor as they do in the original films (i.e. episodes IV - VI)

Lots of alien life forms, Mon Calamari among them

New droids and aliens will be introduced. Kind of a no-brainer, but just so you know it's not just a bunch of rebels

At-Ats, X-Wings, Y-wings, At-Sts are said to be present

Implied that some of the film will take place on Yavin-4; a lot of armies in the jungle and various battlefield locations

Looks like a new droid will be part of the band of rebels attempting to steal the Death Star plans

Felicity Jones is seen dressed as a rebel soldier ready for battle; expect her to get her hands dirty in this one

Some cool stuff to chew on there. If the Mon Calamari do show up, is it possible we'll see a Captain or Commander Ackbar among them perhaps? If not, one of his pals better say "it's a trap" to pay homage. Star Wars: Rogue One is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.

there had better be many Bothans...and they'd better die..else Mon Mothma be proven to be a liar in league with the Empire.

I wanna see Felicity Jones straight up destroy the empire singlehandedly. Oh and Ben Mendohlson as the villain presumably? Hell to the yes.

Godzilla was pretty good-REALLY good when the monster was onscreen but it suffered from uninteresting characters and not enough screen time for Godzilla himself.
Anyway, this sounds good-if true

Actually, in the previous canon, Kyle Katarn stole the plans, but probably someone in more comics or books stole them at least ten times more, because you know, as you see, stealing death star plans is cool and it looks like everybody want to write a story with this setting.

@HachibiTheMC

Is this to get the plans for the second DS? I was under the impression that it's for the original, in which case it is unknown if any Bothans were involved.

Yes, Katarn stole the plans originally but they ruined his story by making him a Jedi.
