STAR WARS: The HAN SOLO Origin Movie Will Also Feature 'Chewbacca'
We assumed that any movie focusing on the early life of everyone's favorite space-pirate would include his loyal co-pilot Chewie, but it's now been confirmed that the Wookie's origins will also be explored...
Short of a pretty major continuity change, it's almost impossible to tell the tale of Han Solo's beginnings without including Chewbacca - but now we have confirmation that the iconic duo will not only cross paths in the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed film, but Chewie's origins will also be explored.
Disney CEO Bob Iger had the following to say about this, as well as Rogue One's timeframe, while speaking at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference:
“Rogue One … is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star. It takes place right before George Lucas‘s first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called ‘A New Hope.' We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy, and that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there will possibly be more thereafter.”
Again, not exactly a big surprise, but it's nice to know for sure. Lawrence and Jake Kasdan penned the script for the Han Solo movie, which is scheduled for release on May 25th, 2018.
