When Sally Field stopped by The Howard Stern Show this week, the two-time Oscar-winner looked back on her supporting role as Aunt May in the not-so-Amazing Spider-Man movies. During the radio interview, the actress revealed that she, too, was not fond of the rebooted franchise, and she also revealed the main reason she signed on opposite Andrew Garfield.
“Not especially my kind of movie,” said Sally Field of the Amazing films before explaining why she took on the role. “But my friend Laura Ziskin was the producer, and we knew it would be her last film. And she my first producing partner and she was spectacular.” The actress then revealed that “Not a great deal of thought” went into playing Aunt May. As for why, Field explained that, “It's really hard to find a three-dimensional character in it, and you work it as much as you can, but you can't put ten pounds of shit in a five-pound bag.”
Fortunately, Marvel Studios and Sony are teaming up for the Web-Slinger’s third cinematic portrayal with actress Marisa Tomei set to play Aunt May opposite Tom Holland first in Captain America: Civil War this summer and later in the untitled solo movie. Also starring Zendaya, the new Spider-Man movie is directed by Jon Watts and opens July 7, 2017.
