Why I think Spider-Man is better suited for television.

Why I think Spider-Man is better suited for television.

Reasons why I believe a Spider-Man live action TV show would be a better suit for the Wall Crawler than movies.

A few weeks ago I wrote an article on 11 properties Marvel could make Netflix shows based on, and in that list I included our favourite Web-Head. Many people had problems with this, and provided reasons on why it wouldn’t work. I still believe that it would work if executed properly. With a TV show Marvel could flesh out the characters a lot more than they could with movies. It would cost a lot less too. If the CW are able to translate characters like the Flash onto the small screen and make them look good, there is absolutely no reason why Marvel/Netflix couldn’t do Spider-Man justice. To get the character right they would have to have the perfect Peter Parker. I reckon Dylan O’Brien would make a brilliant Peter Parker, he has the looks, and he can pull off being nerdy while also being a smartass at the same time. (Check out his performance in The Internship, and also his ongoing performance in the show Teen Wolf). He has a goofiness about him that would be perfect for portraying Peter Parker. He also proved he can do action with his performance in ‘Maze Runner’. Casting has never really been a problem for Marvel before, it seems almost anybody they cast for any role pays off in the end so I trust them completely to cast the right person for Peter Parker.

Of course, one of the greatest things about Spider-Man is his supporting characters; Aunt May, Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, Captain Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, J. Jonah Jameson. The list goes on and on. Marvel would have no problem picking and choosing which supporting characters should show up, and when. One of the other great things about Spider-Man is that his rogue’s gallery is better than almost anybody else in Marvel Comics. With characters like Hammerhead, Kingpin, Alistair Smythe, Chameleon, Big Man, Boomerang, Kraven and Shocker, Marvel would have no shortage of villains to use. The best thing about the villains iv chosen is that they would all need little to no CGI to translate to screen. If Marvel wanted they could have more CGI heavy villains show up from time to time, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Venom, Carnage, Electro, Rhino, Lizard, Vulture, Scorpion, Vermin and Sandman to name a few. One of the problems people think a Spider-Man show would face is that they wouldn’t be able to make the more CGI heavy characters look good. I believe that they would easily be able to do most of the characters I’v just named, justice. For Doc Ock’s tentacles they could use the puppetry trick that some blockbuster movies use. Same thing for Scorpions tail. Sandman wouldn’t be that hard to do either, Smallville had a villain with similar powers to Sandman all the way back in 2005, if they could do it 10 years ago there’s no reason why it couldn’t be done now. Electro would be simple to do, keep him more like his comic book counterpart than his ASM2 appearance and it would be simple to achieve. Electricity is apparently one of the easiest things to create digitally, so they would have no problem having Electro show up. They could have Eddie brock show up as an antagonist before the Venom suit makes an appearance, same with Cletus Kasidy. Norman Osborn and Harry Osborn could be series regulars all through the first season without them necessarily being main villains similar to Malcolm Merlyn and Tommy Merlyn in Arrow.

If Marvel are indeed planning on having Spider-Man play a role in Captain America: Civil War, then a TV show would be a perfect way to give the character some backstory before he shows on the big screen. Dylan O’Brien is an actor that would be able to transfer over to the big screen without a problem. That’s what a Spider-Man show would need, a lead actor that would be able to seamlessly step over onto what’s going on in the movies, but still be able to hold his own TV show.

Do you also think that Spider-Man would make a great Netflix show? Sound off with your comments below, all feedback is appreciated.

A tv series is always a perfect Idea for spidey. There are many things that should translate well into tv like the romance between Peter and Gwen, Peter and MJ, Peter and Betty, spidey and Felicia, Harry and Liz, flash and Betty, etc. flash's shitastic life, Betty's shit romantic life, more on MJ, the villains back stories and portrays, the arcs like last hunt and the death of jean dewolff, street lev type stories, etc. I really would love to see Dylan as the character. But I want garfield to continue. He's do e a great job with the character and is shown to be very passionate about him. Like Dylan, andrew is a big comic reader and a big fan of the character for years. Having him end with 2 wouldn't be a way to go out especially since his other performances blew me away and tho m he's the better fit for the character. So if marvel is generous enough to continue TASM series continue as a tv show i would love to see andrew develop the character right the continue with Dylan for season 2

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Oh, and btw, no! Just no. No Spiderman TV series, no Spiderman in Civil War, and preferably no Spiderman in Infinity War either. He's an overrated character, and overused character. Give the rights back to Marvel, and hopefully have them hold him in reserve until Phase 4, which would be about an 8 year absence (maybe have a post-credits scene in the last Infinity War movie showing Pete getting bitten.) None of the Phase 3 movies need him, they have plenty of strong characters who are currently loved by both comic fans and general audiences (in particular, I think it would be an insult to Cap and Iron Man to take attention away from them by putting him in Civil War, so I'm glad that deal seems to have fallen through.) Save him for Phase 4. By then, audiences will be getting a little tired of some of these characters (along with the actors being done with their contracts) and Spiderman will have been gone long enough that audiences might have a renewed enthusiasm for him.

I agree with whoever said TV shows are perfect for every character. They're comic books it makes more sense

Comic books tell a story similar to the way a TV show would tell it. And episodic structure would be perfect for Spidey, or even what they are doing with Daredevil. The characters woud be fleshed out a lot more and the relationships/dynamics between each character would be great. Aunt May/Uncle Ben, Uncle Ben/Peter Parker, Aunt May/Peter Parker, Peter Parker/Everybody. People say effects would be an issue but Spider-Man could have villains that dont need any. And having him swing from a web wouldnt be that difficult to do, do it with practical effects and i reckon it would be great. Hell, they could even have the NYPD as a villain in the show, with JJ Jameson voicing the problems. You could focus on Peter's social life more then the movies could, his relationship with his teachers/professor's, Gwen, MJ, Black Cat, the list is almost endless.

I agree with super stuff. If you guys watch dexter imagine the kind of stuff Peter would endure. I feel TASM series did that right. SM 2 did it too but it was only a one time thing and not planning to do it that much in the next raimi films is reason enough not to miss it anymore especially with supporting characters being cardboard cut outs. I hope garfield reprises his role in the first season. He still looks young enough to be Peter.

Budget wouldn't be a problem either. The same happened with flash and sleepy hollow

while I agree episodic structure fit for most comic-book character and feel like it's even more true for Spidey given the romances and all the soap going on in the comics I can't go back to bad cgi after the movies the wall crawler looks so good on the big screen I can't help but want more of him.

And I think Lhornbk is right, save him for phase four if he goes back to Marvel but in the end a good movie even one stand-alone movie could do full justice to the characters if good obviously not everyone can show up in the cinema but.. I don't really care I just want good movie putting to good use the character it has. Lot of movie have great character development and lot of action and are a blessing (Winter Soldier, TDK even if the tone is not the same they made it)

Although a serie on Spidey well done could have a game of throne like success if you ask me.

The cgi can still be done well. I really don't want a 2 and a half hour movie and wait 3 or 4 more years for a sequel. There is so much to be done with the wall crawler and his history and mythos.

Batman is the perfect small screen guy. Almost none of his villains require special effects. He would just be great.

I'm hoping Gotham time jumps a few years next season, so we have Bruce just starting out as Batman, villains are older; Jim has a daughter ect.

Exactly. We don't need another batman movie. Just make a show. Intact make it like the flash since flash will have his own movie the sane year as batman.
