BOX OFFICE: SUICIDE SQUAD Manages To Stay At #1 As It Nears $500M Worldwide Despite Steep Decline

After a strong start last weekend, predictions that Suicide Squad would drop in week two have ended up being proven correct. However, the movie featuring the big screen debut of Task Force X continues to do well as it earned a solid $58.7 million in sixty two markets this weekend for a current overseas total of $242.5 million. As a result, it has now earned a pretty impressive $465.4 million worldwide.

Internationally, Suicide Squad dropped by 56%, 10% less than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March. Back in North America, the movie fell by 67%, so it's clearly doing a little better overseas.

However, that 56% drop is still significantly more than Guardians of the Galaxy (which fell by 40.5%) and Deadpool (36%), so it's now going to be interesting to see what happens come week three. The fact that the David Ayer helmed release is nearing $500 million is no bad thing of course, but it could be a while until Warner Bros. consider it an actual hit for them. Will we get a sequel? Time will tell.
