SUICIDE SQUAD Breakout Star Jay Hernandez Says "The Critics Can Kiss My Ass"
Despite being named as a highlight in Suicide Squad, Jay Hernandez isn't happy with some of the complaints levelled at the movie by critics. Joel Kinnaman and Karen Fukuhara also weigh in on them...
We've already heard from a handful of Suicide Squad cast members about the critical response to the movie, but even more of them have now weighed in on some of the complaints levelled at the David Ayer helmed release. Surprisingly, the actor who appears to have taken the reviews most personally is the one who has been highlighted in the vast majority of them as the highlight and breakout star!
"Yeah I am bothered about it, I think it sucks, obviously we worked hard and tried to give the fans what they wanted," Jay Hernandez - a.k.a. Diablo - tells Digital Spy. "It's weird that some of the criticism I heard was that it was 'too much like a comic book', in terms of you have these characters being objectified like Harley Quinn, there are just certain elements that are just part of being a comic book. If you're trying to portray that on a film, you have to stay true to that, because if you don't, the fans of the comics are going to be offended." He then went on to say that the critics can kiss his ass.
Slightly more diplomatic were Joel Kinnaman and Karen Fukuhara as they both emphasised the fact that Suicide Squad was made with the fans in mind. Whether or not they'll appreciate the movie remains to be seen because Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was one of the most divisive comic book movies ever released.
