SUICIDE SQUAD Gets A 15 Rating In The UK And Ireland

Though Suicide Squad will still be rated PG-13 in The United States, The BBFC have slapped a 15 certificate on David Ayer's supervillain team-up flick in The U.K. and Ireland. Find out why after the jump...

Movies that pick up a PG-13 rating in the United States do sometimes wind up being rated 15 in the United Kingdom, but usually a superhero/ comic book adaptation will stick with the 12/12A equivalent. Well, looks like Suicide Squad has bucked that trend by landing the sterner 15 rating for "sustained threat" and "moderate violence".

Doesn't sound too extreme, but then again we are dealing with a gang of pretty nasty individuals that are being presented as the protagonists of the story, so that alone probably raised a few eyebrows at the BBFC.

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, with Raymond Olubawale as King Shark, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Adam Beach as Slipknot. Directed by David Ayer.

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.

unless they're clearly under ten years old, that won't matter one bit

That's fine by me. If Deadpool can make mountains of cash with a R rating then Suicide Squad can do the same
