BOX OFFICE: X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Passes $300 Million Worldwide; TMNT Likely To Win Weekend In US

As X-Men: Apocalypse reaches a relatively low benchmark worldwide, the movie will go head to head with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows in the US this weekend for the #1 spot...

After a slow start today with a haul of around $10 million ($2 million of which came from Thursday evening showing), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows looks set to emerge as the winner at the North American box office with a debut somewhere in the $27 million - $30 million range. That should mean it reaches the #1 spot, but it could still be a pretty close race.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, X-Men: Apocalypse is set to earn around $8 million today for a $26 million weekend, a decline of over 60%. However, should the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel underperform, it's possible that the divisive Bryan Singer helmed release will remain on top (it's worth noting that Out of the Shadows looks set to debut with half as much as its predecessor).

X-Men: Apocalypse has now passed $300 million worldwide, a decent enough result, but far from amazing considering how long its been out in many overseas locations. How high it will go is unclear.
