At some point during yesterday’s filming in Brisbane, Queensland, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi took to Twitter to reveal, “Spoiler... [Chris Hemsworth] will be appearing in Thor: Ragnarok,” along with a photo of the Aussie actor in his civvies on the set which is doubling for New York City. The filmmaker was obviously joking, but what he later retweeted might have revealed a real big spoiler if not just a reference to a certain other superhero who will be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in just a few months.
In one of three behind-the-scenes photos that Waititi had shared on his social network, via user and photographer Daley Pearson, Chris Hemsworth is seen holding a business card which reads: 177A Bleecker Street. Now hardcore Marvel fans should recognize this as the address of Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village, New York. This leaves us to speculate about one or two things: Loki and the God of Thunder will seek the Sorcerer Supreme for help, and Benedict Cumberbatch will make a cameo in Ragnarok.
Of course this could just be a harmless nod to the newest Marvel hero, but Doctor Strange will have made his world-bending debut in the MCU by the time Thor: Ragnarok comes out, and it’s not hard to imagine that Thor will have some trouble traveling different realms at some point in the Marvel threequel given new villainy in the form of Cate Blanchett as Hela, the Queen of the Dead, and Karl Urban as Skurge the Executioner. So, we’re sure Strange will have mastered such feats among other things by then. It’s also worth mentioning that another Ragnarok set pic below shows destruction and rubble that might be the aftermath of the events of Doctor Strange, which just wrapped additional filming in L.A. last week.
Nonetheless, everything beyond Thor having Doctor Strange’s address is pure speculation, but don’t be surprised if we see the mystic superhero again next year. What do you think?
Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi, and it stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Sir Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Karl Urban (Skurge), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), with Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster) and Cate Blanchett (Hela). And Thor: Ragnarok is set to open in theaters on November 3, 2017.
