A first look at Creature Commandos is right around the corner, SUPERMAN is still shooting, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow should begin production later this year. Oh, and work on Peacemaker season 2 is also well underway.
The new DCU is rapidly taking shape and it's looking increasingly likely Max's Lanterns will be next to reveal its cast and creative team.
It's previously been reported that DC Studios has enlisted Chris Mundy (a writer and producer for Criminal Minds) as Lanterns' showrunner, and scooper @MyTimeToShineH is today claiming that comic book writer Tom King is a co-writer on the show.
We know he's part of Gunn's DCU braintrust and penned the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series the movie is named after and based on. He also counts the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Mister Miracle among his many DC Comics credits.
The leaker adds that King's scripts for Lanterns have been receiving a lot of praise internally.
We've heard that the current plan is for Hal Jordan to be older than John Stewart in the show, with the latter likely in his 20s. In an earlier iteration, they'd have been roughly the same age (as they are in the comics).
"This is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan," Gunn said of Lanterns after it was first announced. "We have a few other Lanterns peppered in there but this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth in it they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU."
While he's only expected to make a cameo appearance in Lanterns, the DCU's Guy Gardner has already been cast in the form of Gunn's longtime friend, The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Nathan Fillion. He's set to debut in Superman next year, likely as a member of the Justice League International.
We still don't know who will play Hal or Guy, though Channing Tatum's name has surfaced for the former.
"The reality is that people have flaws. We all have quirks. We all have vulnerabilities," Fillion said of playing Guy. "You could have the most wonderful family, but be like, ‘Oh, my God, my dad drives me nuts. He’s got this one thing.’ Everybody’s got something, and I love to lean into those faults and flaws."
"It’s what makes people real and what allows audiences to relate, because we all know what that is. We all have our own. We witness it in other people. Guy Gardner is 90% flawed and doesn’t care," the actor continued. "That’s one of his flaws. I think there’s a real freedom in playing that. So, for a guy who likes to play flaws and flawed people, Guy Gardner is a gold mine."
Stay tuned for updates on Lanterns.
