As a child, Edward Allan Charles Brock is raised in a Roman Catholic household in San Francisco, his mother dead due to complications of his birth. Eddie's father is shown to be loving but left cold and uneffectionate because of the death of his wife. Eddie constantly attempts to obtain his father's approval, though even after excelling in school, he only receives half-hearted encouragements. Though exceptional in athletics, Brock switches his major in college to journalism after reading an article on the Watergate scandal. Upon graduating, he moves to New York City and as a member of the Associated Press, he obtains a job as a journalist for the Daily Globe. He proves himself to be highly talented, though even this does not get his father's approval. He eventually marries Anne Weying, who is attracted by his wit and gentility.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Brock decides to take his mind off it by burying himself in his work. He investigates the serial killer nicknamed Sin-Eater, and surprisingly finds someone actually confessing to the murders. Once the case is finally closed, it is revealed that the real killer was already caught by Spider-Man, and that Brock had been interviewing a compulsive confessor. Brock is fired from his job in disgrace, and his father practically disowns him. With no decent publishers willing to hire him, he is forced to work for sleazy tabloid magazines. Brock blames Spider-Man for his downfall. Now with his fear of the cancer growing, Brock resumes his passion for athletics through weight training to reduce stress. Though his body grows to near-Olympic standards, his anger and depression remain, causing Anne to divorce him. With both his professional and personal life shattered, Brock contemplates suicide and goes to a church where he prays to God for forgiveness, unaware the symbiote Spider-Man has discarded is waiting for him.

Attracted by the adrenaline caused by Brock's cancer and his matching resentment towards Spider-Man, the symbiote bonds with Brock, feeding off Brock's cancer and keeping him alive in the process. Brock now possesses powers similar to those of Spider-Man, though he learns that the symbiote thinks of him as a second rate host compared to Spider-Man. Brock's hatred for Spider-Man twists the symbiote's own emotions and drives it even more insane. Brock, knowing that the symbiote could potentially go back to Spider-Man, leaving him to die, and also blaming Spider-Man for his misfortune, becomes determined to torment and kill Spider-Man and his family. The symbiote imparts him with the knowledge of Spider-Man's secret identity, and Brock names himself "Venom" for he claims he's poison to Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Seriously, none of these guys are going to work at all. Come on, is it that hard to find a huge, built guy for Venom? Are we seriously doomed to have a guy portray as Eddie Brock BUT YET he'll look like McGorman's Dark Spider-Man? I hate this.
SciFiNut
SciFiNut - 11/23/2009, 11:19 AM
Im not too worried about the size of the actor. For Brock, its all in the jawline and the quality of his voice - and the torment behind his eyes. You need a strong actor & writing before you need some WWE reject.

Size isnt that important, anyway - for Venom to be utilized correctly - CGI would be much more effective than suit acting, anyway - or a combination of both. And if they use a suit - just put a much larger guy in the suit! Its been done many, many times. With that said, I dont know if I would recommend any of these actors for the role. Purcell looks the part to a T, but can he act? I'm not familiar with his work. Grace doesn't deserve another chance at this role.

Seriously, wtf? Who voted for Topher Grace in the poll?! You are obviously not a true Spidey fan whoever you are!

Dominic Purcell all the way!

The Venom movie should pick up from Spidey 3. The symbiote could have been partly damaged instead of completely blown up and during the explosion, it saves Eddie from being blown up. It could be explained that the reason Venom didnt refer to itself as "we" and the Venom face kept rolling back because in Spidey 3, Eddie and the symbiote hadnt fully bonded yet, so technically Venom was more like Spidey, in the fact that he was just being influenced by the suit, they hadnt been fully bonded yet.

The movie could start out with an explanation for where the symbiote came from, his hatred for Spidey and how he had survived the end of Spidey 3. The rest of the movie could deal with Venom planning to get his revenge on Spidey while also saving people in San Francisco where he could of fled to after Spidey 3. Next, Venom "gives birth" to a new symbote who bonds with a serial killer who is on the loose (Cletus Cassidy) and Carnage is born. Venom has to stop Carnage before he kills everyone. The movie could end with Carnage's defeat and then Venom returns to New York to fight Spidey leading into a Spidey 6 where he fights Spidey at the beginning in a proper fight and then Venom forms the Sinister Six from Mysterio, Kraven The Hunter, a mindless Lizard, Vulture and Electro and Spidey has to fight in the greatest battle of his life

Brock Lesnar, looks exactly like an Eddie Brock (and Ive been saying this since his college wrestling days when I first saw him when I was 11)

RyanTcone - 11/23/2009, 12:02 PM
Nick Stahl? Whos the fetal alcohol syndrome victim who suggested that?

Dominic Purcell physically is an ok candidate but I think he'd take the role and turn it into dracula (ie, he'll try TOO hard and it'll come off poorly on screen)
Ryden
Ryden - 11/23/2009, 12:11 PM
Alexander Skarsgard is the right look, age, and has the actign abilties to pull it off..also the muscle. Dominic Purcell can't act for sh!t. Sam Witwer would make a very good Venom also if he had the right colouring. Which remids me...@Ozymandius- You got Sam WITWER's name wrong lol.

I SAY VIN DIESEL FOR VENOM, WOOOOT!!!!!!! jking i'll go with purcell
Runefyst
Runefyst - 11/23/2009, 12:28 PM
I do like Purcell......but I'd be up for more suggestions too. I liked him in Prison Break, but he wasn't so great in Blade 3.......

And for the people sayinig Vin Diesel.........you know, I think he WOULD be better than a lot've the suggestions up there, lol.

But yeah, for this poll, definitely Purcell, I'd accept him as Brock.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 11/23/2009, 12:36 PM
I think I might be pulling for Skarsgard now, Ryden, I think you have convinced me!

He is the tallest guy up there at 6'4", is very well-built, is scary as f*ck, and can act his ass off! Now that he won't be Heimdall, Venom would be a great role for him!

Second choice is Sam Witwer, who is a great actor, has a pretty villainous face, and a good build.
breakUbatman
breakUbatman - 11/23/2009, 12:52 PM
Skarsgard out of the ones up there. As mentioned above Purcell just has a big head and his acting isnt that hot even in Prison Break he wasnt intimidating. Vin Diesel has only ever acted twice: once in Man Apart and once in find me Guilty. Topher Grace should be Ben Reilly
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/23/2009, 1:07 PM
Didnt you already do this OZY!?!

I would go for Dominic Purcell as my top choice but Ryden and TYLER have got me considering Alexander Skarsgard now! However, Purcell is actually a fairly decent actor (at least in Prison Break, not Blade: Trinity!) but in many ways Id prefer to see him as Master Man in The First Avenger: Captain America! :)

master

Or even Gladiator in Daredevil!

Gladiator

CALL ME CRAZY MAN BUT I ALWAYS KINDA SAW Jensen Ackles play Eddie Brock!
Ryden
Ryden - 11/23/2009, 1:57 PM
@Tyler- Good stuff then lol ;) I think he's the perfect Venom. He's much better than Purcell anyway. And yeah Sam Witwer is my second choice too.

You know, I know this is kind of a stretch.. And i'm sure that he doesn't have the acting chops (Nor does he have the voice to be intimidating enough..) However, Body-wise, I say Brock Lesnar.
I'll probably get flamed to hell for that one, As we all know how well 'wrestlers' do in the big films.. He ain't no Dwayne Johnson. But if we were going by looks alone, I'd say Brock could pull off Brock.. at least the early 90's incarnation..

To steal a line from Bruce Campbell.. Who's with me?
