Though Assassin's Creed won't be released until December, 20th Century Fox and New Regency must be confident in the film as reports indicate that they're already planning a sequel with Michael Fassbender set to return.  Though not a direct adaptation of any particular video game, the film is set within that same fictional world, with events in the film happening alongside some of the most memorable moments from the best-selling video game franchise.  The NY Post sure thinks Assassin's Creed will be a winner, they already have the film pegged as a potential winner at next year's Oscars.

Oscars 2017 Assassins Creed

Directed by Justin Kurzel, the film stars Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams and Jeremy Irons.

Set to be released on December 21, the film will battle Rouge One: A Star Wars Story (Dec. 16) and the Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt led sci-fi film, Passengers at the Holiday box office. (Dec. 21).

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

In an ideal world, Fassbender would get really really bussy in the next years that he wouldnt have time to film another X-Men movie for a while.

So we'd finally get a fresh X-Men sequel with new concepts and ideas without Magneto as part of the storyline as the past 16 years

I'm aware of the unreasonable amount of hate that the game franchise gets these days but I'm an unabashed fan through and through. Here's hoping for an Ezio trilogy someday.

Could be the first video game movie that I would like since I'm a huge Assassin's Creed and Fassbender fanboy. This could work. Or it could be [frick]ing terrible.

@grif - from the pictures shown of the movie, the output the outfits look pretty good. what you're showing above is just computer generated imagery and is not realistic like the movie outfits. like I am so sure that they didn't have wrinkles in their clothes back then... Not.!

I want the pale white outfits that in no way would be good for stealth missions!

I like this version of the costume, it's like the originals but with its own twist. You know, like every Assassin outfit does.

To anyone who thinks this movie is going to suck. Please go watch Macbeth first. This movie is going to blow a lot of people away. Because Macbeth was one of the best movies I saw last year.

Video Game Movie = Oscar bait? An odd notion, but going by the law of averages it will happen eventually, so why not Assassin's Creed? That and Warcraft should be up for some technical and costume awards, for sure.
