Fox Eyeing Spring 2017 Start Date For GAMBIT; Josh Boone's NEW MUTANTS Will Be "Very Loyal To The Comics"

It looks like Gambit has been pushed back a couple months due to director Doug Liman's current slate. Plus, we have a small update on Josh Boone's New Mutants and the next X-Men film!

Back in June, we received word that Doug Liman (Edge Of Tomorrow) had signed on to helm Lionsgate & Summit Entertainment's upcoming film adaptation of the young adult sci-fi thriller novel Chaos Walking and while it wasn't explicitly stated, the announcement seemingly suggested that another delay for 20th Century Fox's Gambit might be on the horizon, especially with Chaos Walking also eyeing a fall start date.

Yesterday, That Hashtag Show released their brief interview segment with producer/writer Simon Kinberg from the 42nd Saturn Awards and when asked about the status of the upcoming Channing Tatum-starrer, Kinberg revealed that the script, which Liman had been overseeing rewrites on for months, has finally been completed and then goes on to reveal when they plan on kicking off production: "Yeah, we have a great script on that, and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning or spring of next year." This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as this was somewhat expected ever since Liman took over for Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) back in October and with him signing two new projects in the time since. Looking ahead, it seems more likely than not that Gambit will hit theaters on one of the two 2018 dates Fox has already slated for a Marvel release or if not then, then at an undetermined future date.

As for their other X-Men spin-off, the Josh Boone-directed New Mutants movie, Kinberg wasn't able to divulge the roster of characters we'll see, but while discussing the film's target audience, he did admit that Boone's script is "very loyal to the comics," which should be welcome news to fans of the popular superheroes-in-training. He doesn't have a start date for that film just yet, but adds that they're hoping to start production "sometime real soon" before signing off.

Check out Kinberg for yourself in the video below where he also briefly teases the next X-Men film:

Every studio keeps talking about Spring releases, meanwhile I am stuck here, waiting for this ill-conceived snow to melt so I can give that Bastard of Bolton what he deserves.

@AzorAhai - I know Ramsay is a Bastard, but what did he do wrong to you?
I would turn your attention towards Cersei who murdered your brother, Robert!

@AtlanteanKing94 - The Bastard has usurped a place that is by no rights his, which is enough to unleash my rage. Ned Stark was no friend of mine, but Winterfell belongs to whoever is his heir.

That woman would get what she deserves, unfortunately we don't have jet packs in the books so she'll have to wait her turn.

@AzorAhai - Your grace, I would join you in your quest to vanquish the bastard of bolton, but I am a sworn brother of the Night's Watch now!
I wish you good fortune in the wars to come!

So X-cited for New Mutants. I love most of the other movies but I think we need some fresh blood in that universe. Aside from the amazing Deadpool.

Boone's script is "very loyal to the comics"

Meaning that they're Mutants and that's it.

"Very loyal to the comics"?

God, I want New Mutants now. So when it comes out it will be like Deadpool. "See. This guy gets the X-Men. All X-Men movies should be done by the guy who directed 'Fault In Our Stars'"

You can tell a lot about a person if who ask someone what they think of Channing as Gambit and their response is "HE'S SO HOT!!!"

Always nice to hear that a movie will be very loyal to the comics.

I hope they can pull off Gambit right. The movie and the character could be something truly special.

@DallasAvenger - it's probably good that the comic is influencing their comic book movie. I don't like this guys media presence, not sure how I feel about his writing abilities
