New X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Images Released; Has Jennifer Lawrence Changed Her Mind About Returning As Mystique?

Jennifer Lawrence has previously sounded quite enthusiastic about returning, but has her stance on that now changed, and if so, what does it mean for co-stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender?

X-Men: Apocalypse very much serves as a conclusion to the trilogy which started with X-Men: First Class, and 20th Century Fox may now have a problem on their hands due to the fact that the contracts of lead stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy are at an end after starring in the three pictures they initially signed up for. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence weighed in on a possible return, and it sounds like the members of the trio above will only be back if their co-stars also agree to it. "Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking. Like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back  if you come back.’ Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are."

"I would love to come back," she continues. "I love the fans and I love the character. But then you realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is. I don’t know. I shouldn’t be that honest." It sounds like the studio will need to do (well, spend) a lot in order to convince Lawrence to return, though it could be argued that McAvoy and Fassbender are ultimately the ones who are essential to these movies due to Charles and Erik being much more important to the X-Men mythos than Mystique. Lawrence however is a great actress and major box office draw, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out...

I hope she doesn't come back, I've seen plenty of people (even those who liked Apocalypse) saying she's just phoning it in, and everyone knows they're making Mystique that important for the sole reason of Lawrence popularity.

The worst thing is that they decided to make her be a lot in her human form now that Lawrence's popularity is at it's lowest in the last 4 years. HG movies reception and boxoffice is the exact representation of the general opinion about Lawrence (being the last movie a simple meh and making the least money of them all)

@Bekss - She's not phoning it in. There, I said it. Fanboys will get up in arms, but she's as great as anyone (other than Fassbender) in this movie. I hope she comes back.

@MiopTop - I do think her performance in Apocalypse is below her full potential, after all she's a pretty good actress sometimes. But phoning it in? Nah.

I was too very skeptic about her being in her human form in almost all the footage I saw in trailers and TV spots etc, but after seeing Apocalypse yesterday I can confirm - without spoiling too much - that it ties in with her overall story arc in the film.

@Bekss - It was JLaw that didn't want to wear that make-up, not the studio.
