Hugh Jackman Wants To Be 'Rebooted Not Replaced' When He Is Done Playing Wolverine.

Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman has revealed he would like to see his role go to a younger actor and be 'rebooted' similar to the approach taken in X-Men: First Class if the current continuity is too carry on. He compares his departure to Jerry Seinfeld by leaving his hit show at its peak.

Hugh Jackman has been starring a Wolverine for over 14 years in X-Men and Wolverine spin off films. Talk has turned lately to the inevitability of the actor retiring from the role of the adamantium clawed X-man. Jackman in an interview with Collider has stated that he'd like to see a younger actor take on the role. "I just presume, in a way, that if it happens they will reboot," he revealed before going on to say: "I think you could replace him because he's older, but it would be interesting - because I was 30 when I got the role, it'd be interesting to follow that character from 20, or even 18, because we haven't seen it. So that's just what I assumed it would be."

The Les Miserables actor compared his exit to that of Jerry Seinfeld decision to end his sitcom at a high point saying;   "I was always really inspired by Jerry Seinfeld, how he left that show at its height on his own terms. I think that's a really smart way to do it. It'd be great to leave people wanting more, rather than the other way around,"
"It'd also be great to make the decision rather than getting that phone call, 'Now listen Hugh, I know you thought you were going to [keep going], and thank you so much for all you've done, but...' I think it would be much better to be making that decision together."

DOFP was a great movie btw. It was the the superhero movie we neeeded but not the X-Men movie we deserve.

I don't see this plan working. The reason why is in First Class there was a cameo of Hugh when Charles Xavier & Erik Lehnsherr were together recruiting team members. So the only way to tell a younger Wolverine story is put it in between the movie of Wolverine: Origins. That being said you don't need to have Wolverine on the team for the next X-Men movie. Because he wasn't always apart of the team. Plus if he isn't in the next one other mutants finally can get their spotlight.

On another note I haven't seen Days of Future Past yet. But I was thinking because Wolverine is sent back in time I wonder if he will come in contact with his other self from that time period.

Fox should just not use Wolverine in other movies until the time for a franchise reboot comes.

I'd like them to leave Wolverine alone for a while.

Or reboot him in 4 years with a long necked retard.

Either way.

When Hugh is done with the role, they should be done with Wolverine for a while and focus on others like Cyclops etc...

Smells like.. like if a komodo dragon were to eat a skunk that chewed up a diseased rat then crap it out, and then another skunk ate that lovely pile of warm deliciousness, then sprayed in a hobo's face- that's the smell I'm smellin'.

Gusto no. 5. Spray in on your nads for that authentic Detroit aroma.

Unless the Apocalypse film leaves the character dead or strangely changed due to Apocalypse's and Mr. Sinister's lab work I don't see it being a smooth transition of recasting the character.

However I will strongly say that a reboot done in our modern timeline with all new actors portraying older versions of Beast, Storm, Jean, Cyclops, Professor X Wolverine and etc would be pretty cool. Either way people are going to notice Wolverine has been recast. They should just do it in a smart way and not a lazy way like how Marvel did Ed Norton and Terrance Howard and DC did Katie Holmes.

@charlie

Yeah I agree you could just sit wolverine out and focus on other characters. They just have to get the reception they need for them to believe that any X-Men related film can still be great with or without wolverine. It already seems like they're trying to do that with Gambit and Deadpool. So I guess we'll see...

I love Jackman as Wolvie. I will miss him. But it's inevitable with iconic characters. Eventually RDJ will stop, Chris Evans, Bale is already gone... It happens.

I would prefer they not do a hard reboot. They already have DOFP resetting the timeline to the 80's. They can recast someone younger, but he better not be in his 20's, nobody wants to see teenager Logan. General audiences understand that recasts have to happen... Hell, how old was Brosnan looking when shitty Daniel Craig replaced him?

It has to be done, but we need a proper send off for Jackman. Maybe the birth of his son, Daken in the 80's... Would open up the character for use, maybe have him be a time-traveler like Cable and be a part of X-Force...

@Merc

Great points you made there. I think they should just recast someone around their late 20's early 30's. I'm trying to keep in mind how long they'll be around so that their age really will resemble someone who doesn't age. lol It's kind of funny having to recast an actor for a character who hardly ever ages that soon. lol but yeah man I just want it to end on a high note and I strongly believe Mangold will allow that to all happen after Apocalypse.

After the near-perfection of The Wolverine, I have full trust in Mangold. He understands the little things about Logan. He seems to have a passion for the character, much like Jackman himself. It's a great pairing of the two of them for these movies.

Strongly agreed man, I own the unleashed edition and the commentary is phenomenal! Can't wait to see what he brings to the character next! :)
