Captain America: Civil War concluded with a broken and split team of Avengers, setting the stage for a bad situation with the threat of Thanos looming. In a new series of interviews with Sky Movies, the cast and directors of
Captain America: Civil War discussed what sets the upcoming
Avengers: Infinity War apart from other films, the scale of the movie and more.
"We thought the most compelling way to start off Infinity War would be to have the Avengers right off to the ends of the earth in complete conflict with each other when the greatest threat they've ever faced shows up," explained co-director Joe Russo.
"Civil War's not finished. The story will continue, the story of this family will continue into those movies."
"Civil War was a good warm up for us in terms of the storytelling for Infinity War, because we were dealing with such a large number of characters," added co-director Anthony Russo.
"The approach to those movies is that they are culmination films. They are going to culminate everything that has come before them, any Marvel movie up until this point. It's really banding together all of the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to face this threat together," Joe Russo said.
Anthony Mackie, who portrays Falcon, was excited to be a part of an event-level film with so many characters involved.
"It's going to be the Star Wars of our generation. No one has attempted anything like that. No other comic book franchise has ever put this many comic book characters in a movie," said Mackie.
"I think it's going to be damn mind-blowing when you see it."
Paul Bettany (Vision), had a bit trouble articulating the sheer scale of the film.
"Marvel do it each time. It is huge. Not just in the scale of what they're going to attempt to do visually, but just story-wise, the ideas are just massive, and so much fun."
