This New Look At Thanos From THE AVENGERS Will Make You Hope INFINITY WAR Uses More Practical FX
Thanos might have had a greater presence in Guardians of the Galaxy than he did The Avengers, but this new image shows how the mad titan looked a bit more realistic for the latter movie.
It’s been over four years since the big bad Thanos made his cinematic debut during the mid-credits scene of The Avengers. And while he was initially brought to life with a mixture of CGI and practical makeup effects on actor Damion Poitier, the villain’s next appearances were fully CGI with actor Josh Brolin providing his voice and motion-capture performance. Which might explain why the mad titan appeared a bit less photo-real during his short but sweet cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers: Age of Ultron mid-credits tag.
Considering Thanos will be towering over the majority of Earth’s mightiest heroes when he makes a full-fledged return in the two-part (tentatively titled) Avengers: Infinity War films, no one’s saying Marvel and the Russos should ditch CGI for him altogether; that’d be crazy! However, the folks at Ironhead Studios, who created his gold/purple armor among other things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have reminded us how great the supervillain would look with mostly practical effects and much less VFX.
