One of the biggest stories to come out of E3 was Spider-Man getting a brand new video game, while we would also later learn that Marvel Games has big plans for their superheroes on consoles moving forward (which, let's face it, is long overdue). However, the head of that team - Jay Ong - has now revealed that releases based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren't part of their ambitious plans.
"When we tell people that they aren’t just building a movie game, that opens up their eyes. “You mean we have the freedom to invest and deliver the title that we want to deliver?” They don’t have to meet some artificial date. We give them time. We initiate projects far earlier than we used to." Honestly, that's easy enough to understand, and based on past movie tie-ins, it's also probably for the best. After all, they ended up becoming known for being terrible, and SEGA's efforts were appalling.
On another note, we have some bad news for those of you who don't own a PS4. Based on further comments from Ong, it sounds like the wall-crawler is going to remain firmly on that console moving forward. "The future of the Spider-Man console games is with Sony and Insomniac. With [regard to] other console partners, stay tuned. There’s many more interesting additional things to come. But Activision is in the past, with regards to Spider-Man." Which Marvel heroes deserve a game?
